I haven't picked up a guitar in 15 years and even then didn't seriously play. I haven't really focused on playing badly since the mid '80's. Anyway, I bought a Squier Bullet Strat a pawn shop for $80 just to mess around on. Can anybody tell me anything about it like if it's worth modding or not? I really want to build a kit guitar and thought this woud be good to learn fret dressing, etc., on. It seems to play fine except for the tone being thin and low E is hard to get and keep in tune. Thanks in advance for your wisdom. IMG_0300.jpg IMG_0301.jpg squier 1.JPG

Welcome. Nothing wrong with getting back started with a Bullet. Just start playing again.

Don't be surprised if you wind up with a dozen Squiers by Christmas. The GAS is real. :)

A couple of drops of lube on the tuning gears (anything will do, semi dry bike chain lube is my 1st choice). Hit the base of the tuner stems and let it run down to the gears rather than removing the covers. Then get some pencil lead on the nut (string grooves). That may fix the tuning problem. Welcome aboard.

  9. With that re-applied brown sticker serial it's a factory second. Refurbished for sale after not originally passing quality control.

    Welcome aboard!

Like you I had returned to playing last summer after a 15 yr. or so break. Once then I have rehabbed my old guitar collection which had mostly been sitting in closets gathering dust or in cases stashed under the bed. After I ran out of my own guitars, I traded one for another with a member here on the site, and have purchased an additional six guitars since August 2019.

The GAS is real around here.

It's cheaper than race cars. Were you on a sub? My son is on the Topeka.

Yes sir. I served on the USS Narwhal back when Reagan was President. What does your son do on the boat? And...please thank him for serving for me.

Is the Topeka still home ported in Guam?

Oh, well. You get what you pay for. It plays nice, though. I've had two Fender Strats, but forgot what they felt like. For being a geez maintaining fine motor skills, this works. That's what I told my wife at least:)

He went to the Academy and ended up getting sub drafted. O2 getting his quals. He took my old Takamimi acoustic to the Academy and learned a couple songs and "slayed" the girls. He's in Guam now. I was Army 81-90. Helicopter crew chief.

    Thank you for serving.

Please tell your son that I said he is an oxygen using, carbon dioxide generating, water wasting, dangerous non-qual. Once he earns his dolphins I'll be proud to call him sir. <grin>

He's working on it. He went to dive school in PC. He's the diver officer on the boat. You know I give him **** as a former NCO and tell him to listen to his NCO's. Then there's my youngest. Marine ROTC at Ole Miss. Marines. Eagle Scout, Mech Engineering and Marine ground intel. Where did I go wrong...
