    Just saying hi.
My first guitar other than an unplayable Hondo was a Squier Strat many years ago when they had ply bodies and ive been a Stratocaster fanboy ever since, although SRV may have had something to do with it too.

And all these years later Ive just bought another, a 1996 Tobacco burst Squier Affinity Strat which I'm looking to mod over the next few weeks of lockdown so thought I'd join the forum and see what others have done with theirs.

    Welcome

What is it about your new 96 affinity that you don't like. If it's the sound, have tried adjusting the pickup heights?

Welcome and congrats on the new old Squier! The 96 is a good year for those guitars. Lots of people here love them.

I have a 97 Strat that I have done a lot of work to.

Nice looking guitar, thats pretty much what I have in mind for mine to, is your coil tapped? I m looking for a push pull pot that will fit in the Squier body cavity without routing it out.

I didn’t use any push pull pots, but I did use a 5 way super switch to get some single coil combos. Just wanted to do something different. It’s cool and all, but most of the time I just use the regular humbucker positions. Here is a link to the schematic I used. If your not familiar with the website, look around a little. They have schematics to do a lot of different stuff!

Welcome to the forum. I think a lot of people are starting mod projects lately since there is time to kill. I also noticed a lot people starting to learn or picking up a guitar after years not playing. I wouldn't doubt it if guitar sales have gone up during lock down.

Hi Sid, and welcome aboard. Nice to meet a fellow Brit.
I have a similar year Affy Strat to yours, and nearly went the humbucker route regarding modding, but in the end decided that I didn't want to lose the iconic "reedy" Strat sound so went for vintage sounding alnico pickups and 7way selector. Not a difficult option for me as most of my guitars sport humbuckers. Have you considered keeping a single coil bridge pickup for the extra bite?
