It sounds as good as it looks - I'm a big fan of MIM ceramics - sounds like "my idea of what a strat should sound" - Few have touched it but all have loved it ! Full Speed ! ! ! !

Sweet guitar. I've got a white CXS SE waiting for me to pick it up in Austin here in a few weeks.

As to painting it, if I were looking for an SE to paint, I'd get a black one. Those things are all over the place and can be had for a lot less than a white or tobacco sunburst.

Disregard. I see the original post is from July.

Naw your good - it started yesterday I think ?

I agree - do a black one - there are so many SB's are plentiful up here also ! Can't wait to see what your going to do with yours !

As soon as someone starts talking "white SE" @Kenneth Mountain looses his bleep, goes off the deep end, and draws a blank. When he first got "the ghost", he went underground for 2 weeks. Not a peep, no emails, nothing. I was just ready to leave for Tonawanda to check on him, when he resurfaced. Good thing because who wants to go to bleeping Tonawanda, the only bar in town is the VFW.

Steve's just jealous because Tonawanda has some of the BEST land surfing available in the USA - and he has no access ! Everything else is true - there is something special about white strats ! If you want to know where the party is - look for the orange license plates - NY'ers know !

I've decided on a mint green pickguard and aged white knobs and pickup covers to get this thing looking like Jimi's 1963 stratocaster. This is REALLY gonna be so cool. I'll, of course, post photos once I get this thing all done up and in hand.,

My guy up in Massachusetts who is going to be working on this SE for me reports that the white is spectacular and that I should definitely not have him repaint it. He also reports the neck is definitely one of the chunky ones.

He's going to be rolling the fretboard edges and vintage tinting & nitroing the neck & headstock, Once complete, he'll send me the guitar and I will then set about replacing the electronics and wiring, replacing the nut, putting on some locking tuners (unless I can find a good 10mm hole vintage style tuner set), and most likely replacing the bridge assembly. I will also replace the pickguard and trem cavity cover.

This is going to be one heck of a guitar by the time I'm finished.

The GC guy went to town with the bad editing; the pickguard even looks weird. Should be against GC policy to do that sort of thing.

So...I made some different choices than I had originally planned. After seeing Jeff Beck's white custimized '61 strat that he used in '78 I decided that that was the direction for me. I'm a long-time Johnny Ramone enthusiast and, as such, this REALLY looks like a Strat version of Johnny’s Mosrite (I'm not actually a fan of Mosrites personally, but still...Johnny Ramone!).

Yesterday I bought a MIM Standard big block tremolo bridge assembly and today I bought locking tuners, straplocks, chrome dome knobs, a Fender Pure Vintage claw & springs set, and a Seymour Duncan Red Devil single coil size humbucker in black. I’ll be ordering a single ply black pickguard from Warmoth in a few days.

A friend of mine is hooking me up with the stock middle and neck single coil pickups from his 2008 American Standard Strat as well as the entire stock wiring harness from the same guitar (CTS pots, Fender Selector switch...the whole shebang!), as well as a Switchcraft output jack and black pickup covers he hasn’t been using.

The fretboard is getting rolled and the neck and headstock are getting the Reranch amber treatment. That will be followed up with nitro finishing.

The only thing I’ll have left to do when I finally get this guitar in hand will be to get the nut replaced.

The work is in progress. My friend sent me these mockups today so I could get a sense of how this will turn out.

The pic of the back of the headstock is to show that the Gotoh auto locking tuners I chose are a direct drop in using existing screw holes.

That’s a Seymour Duncan Red Devil pickup in the bridge position. Stock Fender American Standard neck and middle pickups with black covers will also be going in, along with American Standard wiring, pots, caps, toggle & output jack. Additionally, he will be oiling the fretboard with linseed oil as well as rolling the edges. Finally, he will be ambering & nitroing the neck and headstock.

I’ll be getting the nut replaced and a full setup once I have it in hand.

I realize I’ve written out several times what I’m getting done to this guitar and I apologize for doing so. I’m just excited.

This thing is going to be glorious!

  16. Looks great. You might want to locate some new screws for those tuners. Some look to have questionable slots in the heads.
I used Gotoh on my white SE as well. Cheers, Barrie.

Tuners have new worries. He was just showing me one to let me know they lined up.
