I don’t understand why they don’t make a 70’s model in Mocha Brown... I mean, I’d buy one, and I’m sure at least 2-3 other people would, too... (maybe) :)

  4. Indeed. Swap the poor bridge for a Fender one and that's pretty much it ... gig ready.

It's the grain of the wood.

It's gig ready as it is.
What do you mean with "too wide saddles" and "poor bridge"?
    Mine is perfect stock.

Upon closer look at the pics it does appear that the low e string sit right in the center of the saddle. Most New VM 70's came with a too wide string spacing bridge saddles ( 2 3/16) and most change the bridge, ( like me ), to a MIM high mass bridge that has a 2 1/16 string spacing . Problem was that low e string had to ride close to the inner saddle adjusting screw so as to not have the string to close to the outer part of the fret board DSCF1925.JPG

  8. The quality of the Fender big block replacement is of much superior quality. The saddles are high quality steel, the anchor screws have clean well defined Philip slots and are about 20% longer. The trem block is the large block and the intonations screws are correct. The VM ones that came with mine looked more the pickup height springs.

VM'70's low quality bridge and thin block.

Anchor screws have well defined screw slots and longer screws.

If you put the original VM bridge next to a Fender replacement bridge, the quality is overly obvious with the Fender. Chees, Barrie.

Yes a common problem on many VM70 strats but hopefully it would have been put right by now… Certainly the OPs example looks OK.

It would be nice to think Fender correct known errors when their customers make them aware of them. It probably just came down to one substandard supplier or one error on specs.

I tried it two times with some of my older Squier Strats,
but i never heard or felt a difference between the thin block and big block.
Just barely more heighs, like i turn the presence knob on my amp from 3 to 4.
    Wasted money (for me).
So i leave it as it is.
