Recently decided I wanted to learn guitar, so picked up a pawn shop Squier and I'm off to the races! Did some research on your site, learned a bunch, so joined. Looking forward to making some progress.

You are already ahead of the game. You spelled Squier correctly in your first post. Welcome!

Thanks! Think I did the pix right. According to Fender CS, it's a special order Guitar Center anniversary model, 1 of 350 made. Agathis with a flame maple top, HSS, made in 2014, Alnicos, gold hardware. A musician relative set it up for me - then I changed the strings and had to raise the E and A strings pretty high to stop fret buzz - so I took it to a luthier to set it up right. Wasn't comfy cranking on the truss rod and my relative is pretty busy.

Was learning the fret board and starting on some chords when I decided to change the strings. Should be picking it up tomorrow or Friday - chomping at the bit to get back at it. Listening to riffs and such on YouTube - I've got a looooong way to go!!

Anyway - cool site. Lots of good info! I'll be reading and learning more than posting. Thx for the nice welcome.

Edit - LOL pix were when I just bought it - pawn shop wanted $150, paid $130.

Well, I put a course of instruction together for myself based on what's available on line. There's an overwhelming amount, but I've found some pretty basic stuff for now that addresses what seems to be foundational, and figure I'll start there - learn the fret board, chords, technique and practice scales.

That said, I was looking at some beginner guitar books - Melbay and another - and will likely buy one of the two methods then work with it and the online stuff in parallel.

Lessons are a possibility downstream, but time is my bugaboo. For now though, I think I can gain some basics and have something to go on before lessons.

Long ago I read music, and I'll need to brush up. Also looked at an overview of tabs. Learning to read again is ahead of me, I'm just not sure where.

Make sense? Very open to any suggestions on how to learn this. Guess I should say my motivation is purely personal satisfaction and to learn something new. Always liked the sound of an electric and enjoying that sound is a motivator. Pretty eclectic in taste but gravitate toward blues, some jazz, some rock, some rockabilly, etc.

Cool - there IS a ton of available things online. If you have not yet stumbled across them, my two favorites are Justin Guitar and Marty Schwartz ... they both have a ton of free lessons, and song tutorials, great stuff!
