My father in law just retired and has said he would like to learn some guitar. So for his retirement I got him a nice acoustic. It was only $200 new. I ended up getting a nice hard case and the pro coverage so it ended up about $400 by the time I was done. I played allot of acoustics and found the Yamaha acoustics sound really good. Even $800-$1500 guitars didn't sound as good to me. It doesn't sound dead and flat like allot of them. Only guitar at GC I really liked more was a Taylor that was over a grand. Anyway he is happy
If anyone is looking for an acoustic these Yamaha FG guitars are great.

    Awesome Fade !

I how he enjoys he strings off of it ;)

I sat down a good while back an played a good many in the acoustic room at GC.

The best tone was a Seagull.

    2nd was a Taylor.

    3rd was a Yamaha :)

I've got an old fg 180 thats turning 50 next year and it still sounds good ;)

  9. Very nice gift on a major milestone like a retirement.
Although funny, it beats this as a retirement gift.

So have you found your Yamaha sounds better than most acoustics that cost up in the 1k and more range? They did have an Epiphone about the same price that I thought sounded pretty good too.

That’s exactly how I ended up with my APX500III when I wore out my APX5A (needed a refret after a decade of constant playing, re-crowned twice). Had a grand to spend, figured I’d get a Martin X or something similar, played everything in the acoustic room, and then picked up a APX500III... it was like playing my APX5A when it was brand new... and sounded just like how it did after 10 years of play. No contest, just felt like home.

    I’d still like a dreadnaught...

I have an FS 700 and love it. Yamaha makes great acoustics. I dont think you'll find a better sounding acoustic in the price range.

Yes, indeed. My whole family hits the local GC, often. I'm always picking up and comparing to various models in higher price ranges and it absolutely stands up to them. I'm afraid to change the strings on it, right now, because the intonation is so spot on. LOL!! It just rings out so sweet.

What a nice way to treat the old man! Yamahas are always a great value for what you pay at just about every price point they have. Good for you!

I have a fondness for Yamaha acoustics. I learned to play on my mother's old Yamaha Dynamic #20 classical.[IMG]
