Hi everyone! This is my first post here on this forum but I plan on being a regular. Today I purchased this Squier Stratocastar Standard Series from Facebook marketplace. It was recently set up, new strings, and honestly sounds and plays great! I am very happy with my purchase, however I have some questions. Most Squier Standard series I've seen have the two point tremelo bridge, but this one does not. I can only assume it must be older? Also I'm not sure if the pickguard is original or not, but I'm quite sure the humbuckers are aftermarket, as they are black and chrome. They sound great, but I plan on replacing them in the future. This guitar was crafted in China. I'm not sure of the year, but it was very well taken care of, and plays like a dream. I'm curious if any of you can give me any information on what year this could be, as well as why it doesn't have a two point bridge, and if a squier standard was offered in HH, or if the whole pickup configuration is aftermarket? The pots and jacks are all new. Thanks in advance! 20190320_201951.jpg

That has to be pre 2000. What's the serial number? That'll tell the age of it. Man that looks brand new.

Yes it's in almost pristine condition, just a slight small dent on the back that isn't noticable to the naked eye, plus no one will see it while playing. The s/n is CY100900266.

according to Squier Wiki "notes" for the Standard Strat
    • Changed from a 6-point to a 2-Point Synchronized Tremolo in 2001
    • Number of Frets changed from 21 to 22 in 2001
Could this be a partscaster? perhaps an in-between 2001 (after they changed to 22 fret, but before they changed to 2-pt)?

This guitar has 22 frets. Forgive my ignorance, but what is a "partscaster"? I really like this guitar and would hate to have been ripped off. It wasn't exactly cheap.

    I'm thinking with that S/
N it's an Affinity body with a Standard neck. Nothing wrong with that.

A partscaster is made up of parts from different guitars - they can be great guitars. it may be a stock guitar, too (I'm no expert) What is the serial number? that would tell us year

    The s/n is CY100900266

I am kind of disappointed to learn this information. I paid $271.70 USD for this guitar. Keep in mind I am in Chile where instruments are almost always double the price as in the states because of import taxes. New, this guitar would have cost me around 500+ USD in Chile.

my bad - I missed your post w/ the serial number CY100900266 -- that means (the neck, at least for sure) was 2001 Yako plant in China

    Wouldn't CY01 be 2001?

    from WIKI

CY (“Crafted in China”) - C = China, Y = Yako (Taiwan), the first number following the prefix is the year. 8-digit number.

Example: CY2xxxxxxx = made by Yako in 2002-03

I think on those its just first number

That most definitely is a sweet guitar no matter the year.

If things are typically almost double there - then that is a good deal, even if (again, I don't know) its a part caster. standard necks are REALLY nice, and you like how it plays and sounds. If its a stock standard, then its. a great deal!

Enjoy your new guitar! Nothing wrong with partscasters - I have built about 10 or so of them :)

For what it's worth here are some additional pictures, the serial number, the neck plate, and a close up of the humbuckers. If anyone knows what these humbuckers are, please let me know, they sound really nice, but I still plan on replacing them with passive EMGs. 20190320_205949.jpg 20190320_210019.jpg 20190320_210153.jpg

My vote is for partscaster, too. A nice one.

Maybe throw something up in the Intro section, @stratman420 ?
