Houston, I think we've got a problem... So, I JUST got my Monoprice 15 watt Stage Right tube amp... And I don't think this is right...

Now, this is the first tube amp I've ever owned, but the tube in the number 2 preamp spot is white on the bottom... It looks like frosted white on the tube...

So, tell me guys, did I get a busted one right off the rip?

It's behind the wire enclosure, so it's tricky to get pictures of... But if I did get a busted one, I ain't touchin it to remove it...

And if I did get a bad one, what should I do? I ordered it directly from Monoprice... My guess is a handful of emails and a lengthy return process, right?

I guess if it were Stereo 2 tubes would be like that?

I hope it all goes smoothly. Likely someone here would have a tube for you.

I'd fire off an immediate email to their customer service, including these pics. I'd bet they'll rush you replacements. I've never had an issue, but remember reading somewhere that their service folks are good and quick.

I hope the bigger issue is not present. The cause of the tube being deformed. Replacing the tube will not cure the cause.
    Demand a new amp.

Yeah... that didn't happen during shipping, something fried it. Unless the vacuum was compromised while it was on. So the amp still may be ok, but you bought a NEW amp. See if they'll send you a tube or new amp or whatever.

    Good luck.

    That doesnt look good,, but,,
just out of curiosity is the amp working?..
can you make it act up by volume,, knob twidling,, or rapping/knocking?
At any rate Id shoot for another amp as MrYeats suggested..

I haven't even fired it up... I don't wanna make it any worse... And considering I know approximately ZERO about tube amps, that means I haven't done anything except remove it from the box, snapped these pics, and made this post...

The tube is cracked or otherwise leaking, and air got in. The getter will turn white like that on exposure to air. It doesn't need to be powered. The chances are good it's just a defective tube.

I'd hope MP would just send you a new tube, but who knows, they may ask you to send the whole amp back at their expense.

Call 'em up and ask for an RMA. That is a defective tube, as @Triple Jim says, that's what they look like when air gets in.

I've read that they don't replace tubes, preferring to replace the whole unit.

    Sorry about that. Good luck!

I busted on you for using Amazon - but since you did , and this happened - you did the right thing - Amazon will hook you up - it's just time you will be losing - send them a pic and a story - they might reship without waiting for you to return and send you a return label !

    sorry this happened bro !

    Sorry that happened SquierTap.

New production tubes are garbage construction wise. That tube lost vacuum. That can happen easily in shipping, due to thin glass ans shoddy construction. If you were to inspect the tube you would probably find a hairline crack near the base. Happened to me recently on two new tubes that I bought for a vintage audio amp. Best case is that Monoprice will replace the tube. Worst case, you'll need to send the amp back for a replacement. Hope MP makes it easy for you.
