I just bought a Starcaster crafted in china .
    the serial CXS 041016110.
What year do you think it is? Are this good guitars to keep and maybe mod? IMG_1853.JPG

    Im thinking if it's like other Fender & Squier guitars ,the 04 means it's a 2004 .

I think they are like the SE Squiers and are great modding platforms !

Do you have a pic to the back of the neck ?

I can see the grain on the headstock looks killer ,so I'm wandering about the figuring on the back of the neck .

A Starcaster is a great modding platform. The electronics and hardware is equal to SE Squiers. I don't know how to read that serial number but just a guess would be from 2004.

Looks like it's a '04. That looks like a nice one. They are very similar to SEs. I had one. Great modding platform. Starcasters are all over the place in terms of consistency. Some are great and some are not so good.

I "figured" it looked like that :0)

    Absolutely gorgeous !

You've got a serious keeper and a great one to mod out to just what you want .

I was always a guitar snob when it came to Starcasters ... but man, this one is nice. I want one.

    .

    Built October 2004

+1 on China Starcasters -- those are the ones I look for, over any of the Squiers.

Fret level and setup does a lot for playability.

After seeing the back of that neck, you gotta do something with it. They are pretty much se models. I really love the neck on mine, and it doesn't look as good as that.

I don’t think Starcasters have anything to do with the name Squier

I am going to kiss with a file the frets a little (they rough around the edges), block the trem and change the gears.
    The neck feels real nice.

The cavity seems to be 1 inch smaller lengthwise, and the springs cannot be adjusted. any ideas how to block the trem?

I purchased one like that in white in 2012 if I remember rite. The neck is awesome. I refinished the neck and have it on my John Mayer(ish) black Strat.
I'm pretty sure they are about the same as a Bullet neck. The body is thin and cheaper pups and electronics. But a good guitar and I thought mine sounded pretty good stock.
If its a good deal I'd snag it. I like the flame on the neck.

I hard tailed it with a piece of wood in the cavity. Next I will attempt to change the gear. I am thinking Wilkinson DeLuxe.;)
