Doyle Bramhall II
@Davis Sharp amazing flamenco !
I'm not a big fan of White Trash, but I went to elementary, middle, and high school with these guys. So I'm a fan of Ethan Collins. But he passed away at 47 last year.
I think Richie Kotzen is WAY underrated. He's with Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan now in The Winery Dogs.
Pat Marsden and Dave Jeffreys of Prolapse. Underrated band in my opinion, the drummer Tim Pattison is a fantastically chaotic sounding drummer but it really works wonderfully. Love the guitar playing on this track 'Autocade' and their interaction in general on the album 'The Italian Flag'. It's one of my favourite albums of all time, check it out
Andy Summers! Often overlooked .
His jazz work is exquisite. I would have named him if I'd thought of him. Yes, often overlooked; a terrific player.
Same as my favorite of all: Mary Timony.
I always thought Johnny Hickman from Cracker never got enough credit. His Bakersfield infused style works perfectly with Cracker's alt-country/rock vibe. Turned a lot of rock kids on to the Bakersfield sound.
Mike Campbell of the heartbreakers, Otis Rush. Joe Louis Walker,
But then there's guy's like Robert White. Who did the intro on my girl. I remember watching " Standing in the Shadow of Motown" , something was said about he kinda felt like he was on the outside looking in. Imagine being a studio musician, playing on hits, and being pretty unrecognized by the people who listen to those songs. Everyone knows Steve Cropper, i love his work , I sure am not bashing him. But, Jimmy Johnson at Fame probably played on as many hits.. just wasn't a Blues Brother. LOT of great players mentioned already !
Great stuff. The Ex-Hex / Rips album is a serious blast to jam along with. I enjoyed seeing Mary sub for Marnie Stern last year when Marnie was on maternity leave from the Late Night Band. Marnie is another mostly unknown guitarist that I really like a lot....and then there's Kaki King and Annie Clark and...
I would say Jimmie Vaughan. People always think Stevie is so awesome ( Yeah he is) but I think Jimmie Vaughan is under rated and overlooked quite allot.
Jimmie has a supper classy playing style and is one of my all time favorites.
I'm going to confuse relatively unknown with under rated....anyone who have heard these guys below wouldn't rate them low.....
Yep, Stern is really good and Clark is one of my more recent favorites. I'll have to check out Kaki King.
I think he is vastly underated...
Easy Jake E Lee!!!!
