Sad news. I didn't realize he has esophageal cancer.

Tip o' the iceberg, all these dudes are old, are gonna be dropping like flies over the next decade....will soon be the norm and not "news," per se, unfortunately...

I enjoyed his music back in the day and found him to be a wonderful and funny guy on AXS "Real Money" tv show. He was a "regular" guy, dealing with his music career, family issues, and getting older. So sorry to hear this.

I was saying in another thread that I saw him like a week ago say he'd been to the Dr for his annual check up and they found cancer so, I didn't expect it to be this soon ! RIP Eddie Money (Mahoney) :(

I seen him play in our town a couple years ago with his band that included his son and daughter. Glad to know his music will continue on. RIP

Damn, I just stumbled across this ! I saw him once back around '84, when i was stationed at Camp Pendleton southern California. He was one of the openers for Def Leppard, at their giant tour-ending show at Jack Murphy stadium, I was always a big fan of the guitar solos by the session ace he used (can't recall his name).

Sadly, far too true. Only a handful of outstanding artists replacing them. Never again will we see the plethora of talent and abilities as from the 60's, 70's and early 80's.

In his heyday, it always looked like he was having fun. That's what it's all about.

The nice thing about being a recording artist is in a way you live on. Just got back from a quick trip to the post office, and driving down the road with the wind in my hair, there was Eddie on the radio singing his heart out. May his mortal soul rest in peace.

"........Though Eddie had a solid bar band backing him at the time, (producer) Botnick decided to record him with other players,......... In the lead guitar slot, however, Botnick stuck with Eddie’s main foil, Jimmy Lyon: “He was half of Eddie,” Botnick says, “a phenomenal guitarist and a very interesting and intelligent guy. I really think he was one of the best of that era, with great sounds and great ideas. He was very modest, very focused, and also a really good arranger.”...."

According to what I've read, it wasn't the esophageal cancer that he passed from. It was complications of a heart valve surgery.
Regardless, the world has lost a class act of a person. RIP Eddie Money.
