I’m a lefty and have been reading all the good reports on the CV 50’s BSB Telecaster and then I noticed that the pickups are different between the Right Hand and Left Hand models?

Specifically the fender website lists the pickups on the left-hand version as “SQUIER STANDARD SINGLE-COIL PICKUPS” whereas the right-hand version is “ALNICO V SINGLE-COIL PICKUPS”.

    Left-Hand model: https://shop.fender.com/en-US/squi...be-telecaster-50s-left-handed/0303029550.html

    Right-Hand model: https://shop.fender.com/en-US/squi...r/classic-vibe-telecaster-50s/0303027550.html

Is this another case of lefties getting the short end of the stick? Anyone know what other aspects of the left-hand model are different?

I doubt that is correct. Best way to tell is lift the pick guard and read the number on the bottom of the neck pickup. And welcome to ST!

Hope it’s a typo as that would be wrong to poor lefties.

Ok. Good idea. I hope I can sort it out before actually ordering one though.

If that is the BSB you want, the RH one has a code on the neck pickup that is (going off memory here) TF-1n and “Fender” on the sticker on the bottom for the A5 in the CV50’s BSB. Tonerider’s code is TRT-1n for an A5 neck pickup. On the CV50’s VB they are TF-2n and TRT-2n, respectively, for the A3 neck pickup.

    The Tonerider A2 pickups are TRT-3 (n or b).

    So, a “1”= a 5, a”2”= a 3, and a “3”= a 2. Got it?

If they are found to be not what you want, you can always return it. I would buy it from some vendor like Guitar Center to insure that you can.

    Clear as mud.

Seriously though, I appreciate the help. I’m really hoping this is a mistake by the marketing department at Fender.

Just for the input, Uke4Jerry : my Squier Std Strat 2005 LH had AlNiCo staggered poles PUs, but the staggering was for RH, so I pushed the lowest magnet to even the level symmetrically :

This set of PUs is now installed in another project (picture above - very good "funky" sounding PUs by the way) and my Squier Std Strat has a set of Fender FAT50 PUs.

I don't know if the poles are staggered on your LH guitar, but if yes, it would be worth checking the staggering sense, moreover if you decide changing PUs.

    A+!

Interesting... well beyond my expertise... but I love learning and this is helpful. When I finally get my hands on one I will check for this.

So, they are apparently the same Alnico 5 Tonerider pickups as on the RH BSB version and the CVC (the white blonde one has Alnico 3 Toneriders).
