This has been in the works for quite awhile with many delays. Basically it's a mash-up of the '72 Custom copy that was my first electric as a kid and the answer to "If Robbie Robertson's Strat in The Last Waltz Had Been a Tele" build. Not set up and waiting for a string tree but wanted to snap a couple pics before the fingerprints took over.

Body is Warmoth with a medium tint and finished in Tru-Oil. Mighty Mite neck, Wilkinson bridge and pickups are from Rose Pickups. The bridge is a Buckeroo and the Neck is a custom built "wide range" style humbucker in a Gibson-sized package:

That is one gorgeous guitar. If it sounds as good as it looks it's Definently a keeper.

That turned out great! Its got all the fixins for an awesome guitar. Get it set up and play the heck out of it. I think I am going to have to check out these Rose pickups. I am hearing a lot of good things on here. :)

Love the 72 walnut look.. Great looking guitar..
But I don't see the Robbie Robertson connection..
You know he had that guitar dipped in bronze like they do with baby shoes.. Claimed it totally changed the sound.. We're going to need a review when you get that thing running,, particularly interested in that humbucker..:)

I love that hue: what brand/kind of tint is that?
  16. SoundDesign

    SoundDesign Squier-holic

StewMac's "Medium Brown" tint. Great stuff but in this case, mixed a little stronger than recommended.

It definately works with the chrome and the gloss on the pg though: nicely done!

Thanks! There was a thread here recently that touched on that whole Walnut thing in the 70s and I think you either love it or hate it. I was a little young to really live through it as a player and I just think "mojo" when I see them now. That and I am at my quota of black guitars.

With me it's natural finish guitar bodies as much as possible. I don't really like coloured bodies because there were a lot of peculair colours used in the '80s with that whole neon colour thing that was going on then and that sorta soured me on most colours. On the other hand I have seen some orange bodied Strats that have really caught my eye and there was a posting here not long ago of one that had a coral colour and a rosewood neck: that combo has really got me thinking about using the same colour on the next build,....:D
