Yeah some of the new CV natural poplar bodies I've seen have looked really nice.

It's such a shame they don't do a genuine '70s reissue anymore though with 3 bolt neck and bullet like the old SQ.

"3 bolt neck and bullet like" That would be nice!!! I believe Fender changed it in late 71, In 71 some are square and some are that arrowhead shape. Before 71 that it was square. So if Fender says 70 it would be square.LOL but I like the way the arrowhead looks.

Yeah I know it remained a 4 bolt till mid-late 71 but in that case there shouldn't be a skunk stripe.. unless it's a one piece maple neck (pretty rare but there were some made .... Ritchie had a 4 bolt '71 in 3tsb with a maple board and skunk). The most vintage correct CV70 therefore is the maple board version. The rosewood shouldn't really carry a skunk if they want vintage accuracy.

These are the details they get right with the dearer CV 50s and 60s. I know it would be too expensive to add 3 bolts and bullets to the production line but the skunk thing surely they could get right?

Both the maple and rosewood had a skunk once all necks were made the same way again after the introduction of the 3 bolt neck in late '71 so yes that 3 bolt '72 should have one.

It's all the 4 bolt rosewood necks and 'maple cap' necks (special orders initially then eventually a no cost option through '65-'71) that shouldn't have a skunk... so the CV70s really shouldn't have one with it's 4 bolt arrangement. It would then be vintage correct for 1970 with either fretboard.

The exception are those few one piece maple necks that were made for a very short time (rosewood was standard from May '59 till the three bolt neck) just before the switch to 3 bolts. Before this brief period (most likely a matter of months in '71) the now desirable 'maple caps' (without skunk) were produced when Fender got a special order for a maple board. Why that changed for such a short period no one knows...

Anyway, regardless of all that that is a very sweet strat Tex!

VMs are great guitars once you dump the rubbish trem that let's them down.

Yeah I think that's my favourite visually ... though it's a tough call.

I'd love to see the CV70 with a parchment or mint guard that said.
