I brought this N-3 home today.
It’s got some issues for sure, but hey, it was only $20 (USD).

I will try to remember to update the thread with more pics as I take the time to clean and restring and such, but it seems to be in pretty solid shape over all.

I live in Saint Paul, MN currently. I drove to Faribault for this. That won’t mean anything to most of you, but to someone it will.

First, the photos from the original listing.

I’ve wanted a guitar older than me for a while. This one will probably be a keeper.

2.5 hours each way or 2.5 total? Either way, I would say to was worth it. Road trip!!!!

Very nice. I've had a few of the old Silvertone/Harmony guitars over the years and it's near impossible to find one without neck issues. People would leave them strung up tight for 40 yrs in a closet. Good for you.

Older than you? What year was it made? Doesn't look to be really old.

I always find that interesting, when people point out a round trip to pick up a guitar. That's my work commute every day.

Nice score. I can't afford an old Gibson or Epiphone guitar of this style, but I'm always on the look out for these. That checks the boxes.

    I think it's from the '60s.
There's almost no way that it's any newer than that.

Your N3 was probably made in '59 to the early 60's for Silvertone by Kay Guitars. Manufactured in Chicago at the Chicago Musical Instrument Company, Kay was known to supply the Silvertone archtop models sold by Sears. CMI was involved with Gibson, Harmony, and others. If I had to guess the price, it was probably under $50.

I made a similar road trip many years ago and scored this birch flat top for $15. Body w/neck only, the rest of the parts came from my old parts box. Bindings and fret board inlays were painted on at the factory. The neck is a ball-bat and I've seen the same model advertised for $300+ on GC & ebay. DSCN3066.JPG

60's wouldn't even be close to older than me. My two oldest sons were born in the 60's.

Nice find on that guitar. My oldest is a 1959 Guild archtop acoustic. Built 12 years after I was born though.

HNGD! My only non playable wall hanger is a Silvertone archtop my son saved from his neighbor's trash. :)
