My dad looks down a bit on Squiers, yet he admits my full-size one plays well (He still doesn't admit it plays as well as many Fenders). My theory is that many Squiers aren't too good, but if you play all the Squiers in a shop, you'll find at least one that plays great. Then, you just need some upgrades (Better switch, pots, trem block, nut) to get it to be amazing.

I at one time only desired the real thing as I thought at the time and would not have been happy unless it was a Fender or a Gibson of which I've purchased a few over the years.
Then I bought an Aria Pro 11(it had the Les Paul shape but much nicer in design). I could'nt believe the build quality, way much better than my so called top range instruments. I never purchased originals ever again nor will I. The last real Fender I bought was in the eighties when I was playing a lot in a band. I found I had to change the pickups to Seymour Duncans as the originals sounded crap, I dont know what Fender were using then but they just did'nt cut it. Had I known, I could have got myself a really good Squier for a lot less money(more than one in fact) and just put new pups in that. The guitar snobs can say what they like, they are the ones that are losing out imo.
My brother in law recently purchased one of these new Fender Tele 60'th anniversary guitars. I'm willing to bet I could purchase a Squier that would do the job equally as well with a little bit of modding
He cant see past real Fenders by the way
Hugh.

"I own Fender and Squier, I own a Harley but can like riding a Honda. The right someone with a Squier could make even Clapton look bad."

So true. It happens a lot here too. However, you might be pleased to hear that Squiers are respected in Malaysia, and Squier has even come out with a Sham Kamikaze Signature Stratocaster.

To be honest, there is very little tone difference. You can see the chinese "Fibsons" on YouTube and they sound pretty good after setup. In fact, I heard Pesky-Pesky play a Squier on you tube and was floored. To me, it will sheep following the latest BS of highend guitars. We are the road least travelled gentlemen and that is why it makes all the difference.

I had the pleasure of servicing an Epiphone LP 100 awhile ago and was impressed by the overall quality in terms of wood, electronics, hardware as well as workmanship. Two thumbs up for the Epiphone Les Paul 100, and your good self for owning one. I'm attaching a pic of the happy owner after I returned his baby to him.
