Default 500k pots in cheap Strats because of ceramics?

i know this is probably a newbie question, but is the reason Fender puts 500k pots in the cheaper Squiers and MIM's due to the ceramic pickups? and is that why people switch to 250k pots when they put alnicos in their strats?

you've got me wondering now. I'll look under the hood of my classic vibe strat and look. I'm guessing they bought what ever was cheaper to buy in bulk at the time.

CV 50s has 250k. Bullet and Standard have 500k.

i'm going to try this. will order this electronics upgrade kit with three CTS 250k pots, an orange drop cap, and an Oak Grigsby switch. very curious about the difference in sound you (and so many others) mention.
