Default How To Cheat With Your Switch Combos... Introducing Bill Stickers' SOZ Jack Mod

The SOZ Jack mod is a mod for your Jack... weird, right?
SOZ stands for "Sap Or Zap" and it's named with the 50s era in mind as this mod was originally born for Squier 51s. Keeps everything looking stock but with the option of either "Sapping" like a Tone control on 0 or "Zapping" like it has no Tone Control!

Here is my mod for Squier 51s:

This mod can also be used to "Zap" like a Jaguar's "Strangle Switch" but with the twist of being able to Blend PUPs! This Version of the SOZ Mod can be applied to any Guitar Tone Control Circuit. The operation of this Mod is dependent on how many Tone Controls you mod in a Guitar and the switching between PUPs.
Here is my mod again for any Guitar:

Thanks to the point at which this mod is applied, it is possible to practically DOUBLE your switching. I also think that in theory, the Type A mod can provide protection against electrocution but you'd have to ask a qualified electrician technician if that is the case...

All this mod requires is a Stereo Jack. I might have to shamefully say that this is a very good mod...
HAPPY MODDING!!!

PS: This is a quick mockup so I apologize that some of it doesn't really line up. But if you've got the right Stereo Jack, then the longest prong should always be in contact with the Hot end of the Jack Pin and the shorter prong, should move between the Ground side and the Hot side of the Jack. THIS DOES NOT REQUIRE A STEREO GUITAR CABLE!!!

I don't recall reading about this before. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Stereo jacks have possibilities. Two pickups, output one to left channel, the other pickup to right channel. Play through two amplifiers. Overdrive one amp, other is clean. Different stereo type sounds. Lots of options.

I've done this on my two Projects:
http://www.squier-talk.com/forum/squ...1-strat-2.html
http://www.squier-talk.com/forum/squ...ison-jazz.html
It's how it came to be. Though as I've wired it that way initially I guess it's technically not a mod. I haven't wired up the "UniStrat" yet but I pre-wired the Scratchplate... the Strat '51 works a treat fantastic Jazzy Tone and IronGear Pickups really are what they claim to be!

Update:
The Type A mod could have the Cap replaced by 2 Diodes for Black Ice style Overdrive!
Most folks say the Black Ice sucks at any other level but full on so should be fine.
Here's where I got the info on the cheap alternative on the Black ICe:

I got myself some Germanium Diodes and I'll give some feedback!
