Much Love For My CV50's Tele
I know that I love my CV50's Tele, but found out yesterday just how much.
An acquaintance of mine that I've jammed with and did some horsetrading for guitars with in the past stopped by yesterday with a 1964 Fender Duo Sonic that he's considering giving up. We were jamming and he liked my CV's, and although reluctantly, I offered to trade my CV50's Strat, a Washburn acoustic, and a DOD Grunge pedal for the Duo Sonic. He countered with the offer of my CV50's Strat and my CV50's Tele. Although I could let the Strat go, I can't part with the Tele. I don't think I could even do the Tele alone.
I'm aware of the market value of these guitars and know I could easily replace both CV's with new models at any time, but I've really bonded with them...the Tele in particular. It plays incredibly, which was what made him willing to trade a Pre-CBS Duo for it. It would be akin to me trading my dog for another one...I just couldn't do it, he's my buddy.
I'd really like that Duo Sonic, but not bad enough to part with my Tele. I'm a player, not a collector. I buy guitars to play, not as investments...that's what my retirement account is for. The Duo needs some work, the Tele doesn't. I think I made the right choice.

yup, i know what you mean... i own a few Strats which i have made upgrades to, they all sound different, just like a personality... it's hard to let go even if i sparingly play some (the market value of the Strats do not match the actual cost of upgrades alone)

I keep hoping I'll find a CV50's Tele on CL someday.... I have a feeling I'll have to wait quite a while.

Keep an eye on GC used gear. I found mine there for $199 and it was my local store no less!
(used a $20 off coupon on it to boot)

Cool! Thanks streetrod. I haven't spent much time looking at the GC used, but will start.

True. Sometimes GC has good prices on used gear.
I got my CV50's Tele new (but a floor model) at GC for $279. Not a scratch on it..

Old thread but I love this sentiment. I've sold guitars over the years for hundreds of dollars that would be worth thousands today. Of course I never realized that at the time but the reasons I did was always the same. I either wasn't playing them or I'd found something I liked better.
It's no different today. None of my guitars are or ever will be collectors items. The closest might be my CS Nocaster but I've already damaged it's collectability by swapping out the neck for one I preferred over the stock neck and I never even gave it a second thought. It plays better for me with the other neck.
I'm a semi pro musician and a professional investment advisor. I can find better investments than old guitars which aren't any better and sometimes not even as good as a more modern version of the same instrument.
Good for you Kevin. You did make the right choice.
