Default Odd vibration on low E string

I recently bought a CV 50's Tele and I've noticed that when I pick the open B string the low E string immediately starts to sound. I'm currently playing out of William Leavitt guitar method volume one and most of it so far is first position playing with a lot of open strings. So as I'm playing, that low E is just droning along. Quite annoying. Is there a way to stop this? It still has the original strings(9's) on it so maybe new strings or larger string guage?

different guitars resonate at different requencies. that happens to be the one that gets yours going. you can mute the unplayed strings with the palm pf your picking hand, short of that, not much you can do.

Callahan Vintage parts says that their tele bridge assembly's eliminate this kind of vibration. They are expensive but has anyone fixed this problem with a new bridge?

I find myself damping the low E string with my thumb sometimes. I don't even realize that I am doing it.

There is a relationship between B and E notes, E frequency is 4/3 the B frequency, so there may be some sympathetic vibration.

By low E, do you mean the thinnest or thickest string?

If the thickest (the Low E), palm mute.

If the thinnest (the high e), roll whatever finger is on the B string down just a hair to deaden the high e string. It should just take a slight turn of the hand.

If you think it's in the bridge you could try swapping the saddles around. IE.. E and A. Retune/intonate see if there is a difference.. just a thought.

Yeah, it's low E meaning the thickest string. I'm going to try a new pair of strings first. Maybe go from 9's to 10's. Someone also said that maybe there isn't enough string wrapped around the tuner so I'll try to wrap a little more than what's on there now. Also thought I might try raising the low E just a hair to see if that makes a difference. If none of that works I might have to get a new bridge installed. Hopefully it won't come to that....

how high are you pups? if the pup is too high on the bass side, the magnet could be drawing the string...just a thought.

The pick ups are both set from the factory. I'm not even sure I can adjust them because I don't see any adjustment screws.

Does anyone know if I can adjust them?

the adjustment screws are under the pickguard, assuming you're talking about the neck pickup. the bridge p'up has three screws, one above, and two below the pickup.

iwishicouldplay,

That's good to hear that yours doesn't have the same problem. Maybe I'll take mine back to Daddy's and see if I can trade exchange it.

Np, I had a CV 60's Strat a while back on my first attempt at getting back to guitar. It played great. This tele plays great other than this annoying problem.

I just called Daddy's and they said there is a year warrentee so I'm gonna bring it in to them either tonight or tomorrow and see what can be done. Hoping they can fix it or I can just swap it for a different 50's tele but I don't think they have another one. They do have the CV Custom so that may be an option.

Well, I took it to Daddy's and the guy there played it. He could hear some of what I heard but it was noisy in there so you couldn't hear it as much as in my house. He said it played great and that if other strings are resonating that means the body is made out of a good piece of wood. A few people I talked to before him said the same thing so I guess my "problem" is actaully a good thing. And come to think of it, when I tested guitars before I bought this one I played them unplugged and pick the one that sounded the loudest and played the best. Then I plugged them in to make sure everything worked ok.

The strings right now are stock so I think they are 9's. I bought some D'Addario EXL110's so I think I'll try those today. I'm also going to adjust the pickups to see what that does.
