Default Sticker/Pickguard issue

Ok, newbie question. I just bought my first guitar in over 20 years--CV 50s Telecaster. Pretty excited about it, but...

For some reason, Squier felt the need to place these stupid Classic Vibe stickers on these guitars. I peeled it off, but in the process, it looks like there is some bubbling on the pickguard after I did this. I then noticed another area on the pickguard near screw on the bottom left of the pickguard and there looks to be a little loose plastic covering there, too. And this is a brand new guitar.

Before I do anything else, is that just a superficial layer of plastic on top of the pickguard or is there a way for me to somehow fix this? Thanks!

Danny,

I feel like such a geek for asking that question now. Thanks so much for your help. The plastic came right off without any problems at all. Thanks again.

My two deluxes had plastic on the pickup covers as well. Now that was a pain in the donkey. I ended up with a set of tweezers pulling little pieces of plastic from between the guard and the pickup. I usually keep the Stickers, and put them in the case. With Squiers that is about all the case candy you get.

You're best to remove the pickguard screws, knobs and pot-nuts then lift up the plastic that gets stuck under them when they screw the plate. I can tell when a guitar has plastic under the guard screws the owner probably never went in the for any reason. I got a 2nd hand guitar where the previous owner must have left the plastic on forever, it fused with they pickguard. I could see the scratch marks in the guard a they were evidently having to scrape it off. :dopes: Also it robbed color from the pickguard.

Yeah over time, that plastic film will bond stronger to the pg plastic. At the same time, it will become more and more brittle. Especialy if exposed to UV. And any stickers on the film will ghost into the pg. So when you do remove it, you have a ghost of the sticker and the film may quite hard to remove. the plastic used for pgs and sign faces and so on all usually come with a protective film over to avoid damage during the manufacturing processes. Best to remove that right away.

Had the same issue with my MIM Fender Tele.
It had hung on the wall for two years before I purchased it and pulled off the pickguard plastic. Recently I noticed the pickguard yellowing quite a bit, but leaving a white "ghost" of the Fender sticker on it.
