Default New Factory Squier Tele with Bigsby

I searched around and didn't find anything online about this guitar. I was just at Guitar Center and they had two new telecasters I've never seen. One was a MIM Fender Tele in silverburst. The other was a Candy apple red Squier Tele with a licensed Bigsby. And best of all it was $299.00!

I was told they just got them in yesterday. I played it for about 10 minutes and I was really impressed. The setup wasn't perfect but the action was low and far better than most similarly priced guitars straight out of the box.

Here's a link to a page on the Squier web site, installing a Bigsby on a Classic Vibe Tele. If they make Bigsbys available on the 50's CV or the Custom CV Teles, I'll just have to have one! Did you ask the GC people what's up?http://www.squierguitars.com/news/in...ay_article=147

That is just not fair.... What kinda pickup setup did it have?

I really was doing okay and controlling the buying impulse lately....

That looks good even without the Bigsby.

I believe it is a GC exlusive. Tag says FSR, whatever that means.

Is it a string-through or top load? I mean, of course it's a top-load, but are there string-through holes to the back?

Hello Guys/Girls. As a long time Fender collector, I have been lurking here for a while now. The post regarding the silverburst tele Prompted me to register. I too saw the tele at GC. I own a few High end Mexi guitars, but never cared for any of the Mexi standard offerings. That tele was the exception. I liked it so much I Purchased the very guitar in the picture! That particular guitar played as good as it looked: really good. I am amazed at the current state of quality of Mexican guitars. Sure the fret material, pickups and tuners can be questionable, but the necks, neck pocket fit and finishes are outstanding. I own a 83 toploader that doesnt play as well as this guitar. I plan on a twisted tele and CS pickup set and straplocks for it. As for pots I know some of them now use quality CTS pots, we'll see when I open her up. Nice little guitar for 499.00!

Glad someone in the boston area grabbed the silverburst. I just got the squier today as it's tax free weekend in Massachusetts. I'm also very impressed with MIM stuff lately. I bought a MIM baja tele and robert cray strat and both came from the factory perfectly setup. Even the Squier I just got made in Indonesia has all the nice fit and finish pieces you look for as indicators of a well built guitar. Now if the Bigsby will just stay in tune...

If it has a Bigsby, it would have to be a top-loader, since the strings seat in the vibrato unit itself.

ok, been playin this thing (red squier w/bigsby) today a bit more and all I can say is this guitar has some serious mojo. It just has a great mellow tone on mid position, throwin' down "Wind Cries Mary" (I know not a strat, so shoot me) and it sounded so sweet. The bridge is twangy as can be, even a little more than what I prefer, but it is Tele to the bone. I have to say I am completely happy with this purchase on what is probably one of the coolest axes I've owned.

I have been to two Guitar Center's and I've only seen the red. If it is indeed a special run for GC I doubt they will make multiple colors.

GC usually advertises there exclusive guitars in their monthly mailers, so I'll be looking for that for some basic specs.

I'd be carefull if they do come out with another color, I think they are using up all the tone on the red ones ;-)

jimbojo and kderma321, the Squier with Bigsby is a beauty! I have a CV Tele Custom and the Bigsby on a sunburst Tele would just be killer. Though I certainly wouldn't walk away from the candy apple red either. Did you get a hard shell case for it? Just wondering what case might be a good fit.
I have a GC about an hour from me. Excuse me, while I make a phone call...

I have a pretty new tweed case with red plush lining.

I did not get a hardshell. I have a Fender gigbag lying around that I may use. I don't really travel anywhere with my guitars.

I really like the binding on the custom. If they ever made a red with white binding I would absolutely buy one.

I played the Bigsby equipped Tele at GC in Albany yesterday. It is Red metallic as well. I REALLY wanted it, but my Wife would kill me if I brought home another guitar right now.....

It still needs a setup. It def. falls out of tune a little bit if you really depress the trem arm.

I use a small dab of Nutsauce in the nut and bridge slots on all my Bigsby equipped Gretsch guitars. Really cuts down the tuning problems associated with using a Bigsby.

Sounds like it may be binding at the nut a little. Make sure the slots aren't too tight and use a little lube. Personally I'm partial to #2 pencil. It's dry so it won't gum up the strings, and it costs basically nothing.

I have some nut stuff that I'm going to put on. It has the factory 9's which I will be switching to 10's. From there a nice setup should get me going.

These are really cool Teles. I bought one today at GC, Cedar Rapids. Nice neck, twangy pickups, a very solid feeling guitar. On the downside, I'm getting some static occasionally. I hope it just needs a shot of cleaning fluid in the pickup selector switch and volume/tone pots. Grounding also seems to be less than stellar. There's a bit of buzz until I touch the volume or tone knobs and then it stops.

I'd be surprised if there's any attempt at shielding at all, but then I haven't checked out any new Telecasters in some years. It's worth the effort to slap some copper foil in those cavities and ground them properly.

The "static" may be dirty contacts as you suspect, or cheap components. Either way, not too hard to fix.

This could also be coming from something in the room, try the amp and guitar somewheres else.

Nope. Already checked the obvious things. Cable is OK. All other guitars are fine through the same amp, in the same spot, in the same room. It's definitely an internal static from the Squier Tele itself. I think a squirt of cleaning fluid will probably clear things up. I'll try that tomorrow.

Well if it does'nt work out for some reason, just let them know and have them order a new one in for you or bring one from a neighboring location. They have a policy in your favor.
