Meanwhile, back at the Tele w/Bigsby. No more crackle and static. A few shots of Electrical Grade circuit cleaner did the trick. The Gretsch's, Dano, Casino, CV Tele Custom and others will just have to be patient. This guitar deserves some play time.

does anyone know if a standard Fender pickguard will fit on this guitar. I seem to remember something about Squiers being slightly different. I may put a matte black or mint green guard on mine. How do you guys think that would look?

I like the idea of the mint green guard.

The mint green sure looks good on the CV Tele Custom. That might match up on the Standard. In past experiences I've found that even the Fender MIM and USA guards are not interchangeable.

I was in a GC in Austin today and was psyched to find one of these Squier Teles with Bigsby. It looked like this:
Looks gorgeous, and I love Bigsbys, so i had to try it out. the first thing i noticed was that it had a fat neck. i'm talking baseball-bat fat. which i actually really liked. it played very nicely and i also thought the guitar sounded sweet. it took every ounce of willpower to resist slapping down the credit card and taking it back to NYC with me. i'm still wondering if i made the right decision. but i need another guitar like i need a hole in my head...

I put an MIM mint green PG on mine today. It was from an MIM 60s telecaster. It fit fine, except I had to change the control plate to an MIM one, the CII one was to wide. I suppose I could have dremeled the PG to make it fit, but I had the control plate. Looks great BTW.

Can a Bigsby Tele Tremelo be set up to stay in tune? I know there are tricks when setting up one for a strat. Anyone have any experience with the Bigsby on a tele?

It's made in Indonesia at the Cor-tek factory.
The neck is nice, pretty thick profile, which i like because i have big hands.

Just got back from GC here in Denver. And unfortunatly I didnt get to bring one of these Telecasters home with me... Even tho that was the mission when I left my house...
They had 2 of them in stock. 1 of them had some major rattle issues with the bridge on almost any fret past the 10th or so. And at the same time the action on that guitar is already rather high as well. Leaving me to belive that specific guitar would have to have some seriously high action to get rid of the bridge rattle. Doh!
Ok so it was then on to the other guitar... It was almost right. No rattles from the bridge. No buzzing frets. But the action was even higher then the other Tele. My worry then became if I drop the action on it am I gonna start getting major bridge rattle issues like the other guitar had...
They said if I waited around the tech guy would show up and he could drop the action and we could see if the bridge rattle appeared. I waited around about 40 minutes for him to show up and when he did he told the GC guy who had been dealing with me that the guitar was already set up about as low as it can go...
Which was rather laughable to say the least as the bridge saddles were pretty much raised up as far as they could go... The guy who was dealing with me then did a quick truss rod adjustment himself in an effort to lower the action. Which did seem to work rather well as it seemed the action was then a lot better. But of course then the guitar was buzzing like crazy on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th frets... UGGG!!! I gave up and left. With no Tele Bigsby in tow. Lame...
Now im left with 2 options. Go buy the guitar and mess around with it myself to see if the guitar will buzz and rattle with a lower action. And then return it if I cant get it right... Or just give up and forget the dream... Which at the moment is the direction im leaning. Doh!

I played one at Guitar Center a couple of days ago and It seems like they picked one of the very low end guitars to put the Bigsby on it. Maybe it was the strings being dead or me being used to the Classic Vibe series, but I didn't care much for the guitar. Though with new strings and a good setup, I am sure it would be fine. I have not met a bad Squier yet. Only ones that need some TLC. The Bigsby's are very expensive and that is a heck of a price for a Squier with one installed on it.
One thing I did like about the Bigsby on the Squier was when I do a double bend with one note being stationary, the stationary note did not go flat like most tremelo systems. This is probably one of the better systems for any guitar on the market. I was tempted to buy it, but I have to stop myself from doing that. I am an impulse shopper.. lol I think that those who did bring one home are very lucky. Not sure if this is a one off deal or something that is going to continue. I heard it was only for GC.

I played one of these today at GC and I'm gassing pretty badly - actually, that's how I found this forum.
The one I played was well set up - action a little high (and crappy strings) but no buzzing and no fretting out. It stayed in tune even after using the Bigsby. The neck felt a little thin to me, but I'm used to my MIM Esquire which has a big neck. The guy there told me CAR only.
I do not need a new guitar, in fact I could stand to lose a couple, but I may jump at this one.

Tell me about it... Its a great looking guitar. And at 300 bucks new a really good deal as well... If its right...
We have 3 different Guitar Centers here in the Denver metro area but only 1 store recieved these guitars. And the 2 they got seem to be total duds... Doh! Altho I guess 1 of them has potential and could be made to be right. But you would have to buy the guitar and then attempt to fix it to even know if it could be a winner or not... Talk about a pain in the a$$... Ive decided to hold out for now and see if the other 2 guitar centers here get any of these in. So far neither store says they show any of them being shipped to them. Hopefully that will end up changing tho. Doesnt look good tho...

Went in to gc here in colo spgs and saw one, too. It was beautiful, but I didn't have the cash. Instead I ordered the white on white affinity strat.

I took my Bigsby equipped Squier Tele out and used it for a gig 9/11. (I play in a duo. Partner plays an acoustic 12 string, I switch back and forth between acoustic and electric depending on the song.) I really like the pickups. Lots of jangle and some big time twang and growl on the strings closest to the nose. I don't know what these pickups are, but I like 'em. I also slipped a penny under the vibrato spring to give the arm a little more play. A whole lotta guitar for $300.

I pulled the trigger last night. I had a 15% off coupon that brought it down to $249. Picture is below - forgive the quality. It's actually super shiny CAR, lots of chrome - a real looker. Overall fit and finish are excellent - this is my first Squier and I must say I'm impressed.
I put new strings on it, put some lemon oil on the fretboard because it felt very dry, and fiddled a bit with the intonation. So far so good.
The neck is big enough for me. Compared to my other Fenders, it's not as thick as my MIM Esquire, but considerably thicker than my MIJ Aerodyne Tele. It is similar to my MIM Tele. Frets are fine, medium jumbo, I think. The action is reasonably good - a little high, which is par for the course at GC - with no fretting out. I'll try to get it a little lower, but it is workable. The tuners feel a little shaky.
The guitar is very light, especially considering all the hardware. The Bigsby works great and with some Chapstick in the right places, the guitar stays in tune despite mildly abusive whammy bar antics.
I haven't been able to crank it up yet - hopefully at band practice this week - so I can't really say much about the pickups. But even if I have to replace the pickups and tuners down the line, this is a beautiful axe and a killer deal.

Update - I got to give this a thorough workout at band practice last night. The bad news: the bridge pickup is a little weak - brittle by itself, too thin and high-end for my tastes.
The good news: everything else. I love the neck, the Bigsby, the neck pickup, the light weight, and the look (CAR and chrome) - this is the best $250 I have ever spent, no doubt. I plan to replace the bridge pickup with the same pickup that is in my MIM Esquire. If that sounds as good as I suspect, this guitar will become my #1.
This is a limited run at GC. My advice: get 'em while you can, 'cause I ain't sellin' mine!

Hmmm.. The one at my local GC is still there. It is a keeper. For some reason, they have it way up on the racks that are above the amp display, so it is hard to reach. Like they are saving it or something. I would love to get it, but I just bought a bass from them last Saturday, and there is only so much new gear I can get away with buying at a time.... :-)

While at GC last night I asked if they had any more and they said that they sold 10 of them quickly and that was all they were getting. Those FSR guitars can be really cool when you are the one who has the money when those deals come around. Thank God for layaway at GC.
