Default Where are all the cheap CL telecasters???

OK, is it just a numbers thing? Are there physically more Strats around than Teles? It's just odd that I see Strats (Squier, clones, what have you) on CL LOTS under $100, people practically GIVING them away. But even the Affinity Teles are usually $125-$150 minimum. Seems like you can't catch a break these days on even a half-decent tele... anyone else been seeing this?

I've noticed the same thing. I've been looking for a tele for several months and I have seen some decent prices, I would rather get a strat for half the price. Something will eventually pop up. Until then the hunt is on

I think you hit it - numbers. Think of all the Strat packs that parents bought for their kids that never played them. Plus the Strat is the quintessential electric guitar, so it's probably been copied more than any other guitar out there. There's a Tele on CL right now here in MN for $120 with Duncan pickups installed. Looks like a Standard too, but I can't tell. Don't the Affinitys have maple necks?

Same holds true on E-bay, Tele's are goin for more than Strats, I pick up a Standard for $135 + $25 shipping, and I considered it a great deal.

yeah, teles seem to be more with squiers, now fenders I dont know, seem to be about the same price, some american made fender teles I have seen go for cheaper than american made stratocaster though on ebay and craigstlist.

It seem to just be the squier, I think it has to do with the numbers sold, not as many teles on the used market as stratocasters, so when tele gets listed, it sells, and when a strat gets listed it is just 1 one many to choose from so the prices compete to sell

I caught a good break on an Affinity BSB Tele w/ a
gigbag about a week ago, which i picked up for $50.

It was listed for $125 but i think i was the only
one who inquired about it & he took my offer.

So Tele deals are out there, they're just
a lot less common than deals on Strats
& you've gotta work harder to find 'em.

I could be mistaken but, yes, i do believe
all Affinity Telecasters have maple necks
& only the Standards come w/ Rosewood.

I have noticed that around Indy the last few years that its hard to find a good used Tele.espcially a Squier. They are easy to sell and if u find one u should buy it cuz itll be gone. There is more Fender Teles around, but they are pricey. The local music store never have them used.GC hardly ever has many Squiers, but lots of high end Teles.

I think that Strats outsell Teles by at least 20:1, probably more, and especially for Squiers. People who buy Teles tend to know what they want and stick with it. A lot of Strats are bought by people who are newbies (or bought for kids) and they don't stick with it, so they end up on the used market. That is especially true for Squiers in general since they are sold into the beginners market, and Squier Strats in particular since they are often sold in the "Strat Packs" which are exceptionally popular with beginners.

I do not see Telecaster type guitars on my local craigslist.org often. But then I don't see SG and V guitars advertised often either. I vaguely remember finding my Telecaster advertised in the local newspaper, not craigslist.org.

I've been looking on my local CL for months and haven't seen one. ANY Tele is rare on my CL.

Yep Squier Affinity Telecaster is $180 just about everwhere... only bone that CL seller is tossing is the "free" gig bag.

The US second hand prices are about half what you might pay in the UK. I only wish we had CL here - with those kind of prices!

Re the maple/rosewood question above, well, at one time you could definitely get a rosewood board Affinity Tele, and im pretty sure a maple board Standard Tele existed too. - or is my mind playing tricks ? - was that only the Standard Strat that came with a maple board some time?

Rosewood Affinitys certainly were made. I looked at buying one... It was too expensive ..

I wonder about the numbers too. I say 20:1 is the minimum. I suspect squier strats outsell teles 40 or 50:1 and in the used market its 80 or 100:1. I just sold a red affinity with some serious chips and 1 broken tuner knob for $70. After thinking I really should have asked $90 or $100. There hasnt been anything less than 200 for 2 months maybe. But I still made a few bucks and the guy was a modder so its cool.
