NGD!
I just picked up a used 2008 Squier Standard from the local Music-Go-Round. It's in great shape, woohoo! They had a gold thinline that had just come in the door a little bit before I got there, but I liked the standard a bit better.
Pics of the current herd also...

Looks like the single-coils are taking over. That's the perfect color, too.

It's pretty bad that the Standards aren't offered with Maple necks.

Yeah... I like that yellow/white color... but I think it would look better with a maple neck and a black pickguiard.

I've already thought about swapping the necks on this and the '51. I really did want a maple neck on the Tele.

Don't we all.
I think my gas would go away if I get a CV 50, well, not really.
It would just be replaced by a different guitar.

Thanks for the kudos, all! I've really discovered that I have an affinity (put intended) for Squier's. I think four is enough...

They just might... But I like the really pale yellow color of this one rather than the rather stark white of the CV 50's Telecasters I've seen.

I got one just like it last summer '09. A great axe for the money. I like the rosewood board. I had a pro setup done on it. The only problem was the nut needed lowered and the intonation adjusted. When I picked it up from the shop the tech commented on how well it played and sounded. You just can't beat the Squiers for the money!

My back is doing much better, thanks. All the pre-surgery pain and numbness is gone. I just have the general healing soreness and muscle weakness. I've got about a month before I have to go back to work, so now that I can move a bit more I might start swimming to see if I can build the muscles back up.

Cool, it's nice player. I'm planning a pickup swap, but still deciding which way to go. I'm going to reverse the control plate and likely do something different with the wiring, but not sure what yet. I'm totally open to suggestions

Im thinking the best place to start is to replace the switch, pots and capacitor..Switchcraft jack will help too..Still gonna wait for mine to show up and check it out first.I also like the idea of reversing the control plate.

Coooooooooooooooool
The jack on my Tele is miffing me off too... it's come loose from the wood so I have to be delicate with it needs something that screws into the wood... it'd work so much better
Congrats...
LOVE Blonde & Buterscotch Teles.... *drooooool with a translucent finish*

I read where people are always doing upgrades on there Squiers all the time, some even before the play them. Is it really necessary to replace the electronics on the guitars to have good tone? Or is it just the need to tinker. My 09 tele standard sounds just fine to my ears so I keep thinking I'm missing out on something buy not doing a upgrade.

A switch is a switch and a pot is a pot, I have replaced all the Squier electronics with Fender electronics which gave me a warmer tone, but that was because they were 500K pots to begin with. As long as your tone sounds good to you then don't replace anything, and if you do, then do it when you replace the pickups at least then you'll be killing two birds with one stone.

Right on!
Bad tone stock is either your ear or a discrepancy in the manufacturing process. Happens all the time, it's a fault in mass production. But not always, they do a pretty decent job all things considered.
I'd say, however, the folks who mod before playing are doing Builds; that's a different kettle of fish.
Within the whole Guitar thing:
Replacement refers to changing a problem.
Modification refers to minor improvements.
Building refers to constructing a project based upon a specific iconography.

Let me clear some things up. I stated in my post that I was going to wait for the tele tp be delivered to see what its sounds like.I bought it sight unseen as I couldnt find any locally to try out.Its possible I wont do anything to it..
Yes I agree if it sounds to your liking then leave it alone. To keep the cost down on import models the components are a lower grade..So I dont agree that a switch is a switch and a pot is a pot..Sure i'll give ya they all do the same thing.. But better quality components will last longer and sound better.I did upgrades on my 3 bullet strats and did notice a big difference.. Iv'e read numerous posts by people stating the pickups were poor sounding but after changing the electronic components they found it wasnt the pups after all..Epi LP's are a good case.I think you would get a better tone using the 250k pots..500k's are typically used for humbuckers.

Well I guess that Fender is selling us a bunch of junk because my guitar didn't sound any better with their wiring harness as opposed to the one from TNT Guitars, which is a little cheaper and they don't use names like CTS either. To me it sounded better, hearing is subjective and everyone is looking for that tone, only that after getting it you will probably hear something you liked better, and the quest begins anew. Pleased to meet you all, my name is Ed and I'm a recovering guitarholic
Sure, a CTS pot might, and I say might last longer than it's cheaper counterpart but it's not going to sound better. That is my point.
A cap or pot made correctly irregardless of the mfg. will not sound better because of the name on its body, think Fender and Squier, it may last you more but it will not change the tone.
It is true that the electrical components in the Bullet were cheaper looking than those on my standard, but the tone was good and may have been better than my standards, but I'll never know because I took all the electronics and pups and replaced them with ALNICO's and replaced all the wiring at the same time. I think I goofed.
Let us not kid ourselves, isn't a regular Squier going to sound maybe even better than one that has Fender on the headstock, even if the Fender came with CTS pots and a switchcraft jack?
Sorry for the rant, it's JMO.

Do all standards come with 500k pots? If they do I may just change them out and see how much of a difference it makes. I may just like the sound even more!

I don't think they all come with 500K pots, you'll just have to look under the hood.
