Default Help!-Best Squier Tele for Blues

Hey folks,
I have been gassin' badly for a Tele, and I play Blues, and would like to get one down the road. I would like some input from you Tele owners what you would recommend for Blues. I love the twang and punch of a Tele. But I want the warm, fat tone. I play through a EPI BC 30 amp. I have looked at the CV Thinline and or CV Custom. Have not had a chance to play any. What about the VM series? I guess I need to go try them. Just really do not have the time, I live a fair distance from any major Guitar stores. Any input much appreciated. Thanks...

Michael

I had the CVC (which I should've NEVER sold) and found it amazing. The bridge pickup has great twang, but also a smooth edge, especially with the tone rolled off a touch. The neck pickup, however, is the star of this show. Warm, fat, clear, especially with a little dirt. That said, I don't think you would go wrong with either the Custom or the Thinline. The VM Thinline is nice as well...

Yeah, you're gonna have to saddle up and get to your "local" shop my friend.

try the CV Thinline Tele. if you play one, you're gonna fall in love with it. I play "Blues", too, and that little guitar that I was playing was taking everything that I was throwing at it. so, see if you can't find one to try out.

In case ya missed it
All the CV teles are nice I had the 50.s but threw it over for the thinline last week. I would have not gotten the 50's in the first place if I had of know they where coming out with a thinline. Not that the 50's wasn't any good. Its I like the thinline more.

Pesky, you're not big on the "hunting lodge" look of the CV Thinline?

Default Standard Telecaster..worked for me

I play a lot of blues. I did two gigs last weekend with my newly purchased Standard Telecaster and the response was good. But now that I've put in a Duncan Vintage '54 lead pickup in the bridge, the responses and blues tones should be even better!

I remember watching video on You Tube showing Muddy Waters playing a Telecaster. I don't know if you like the sound though. You might look up Muddy Waters' videos, decide if you like the tone.

For blues, by spec, I'd choose the custom with 2 p90s. Didn't though, got the CVC instead. It's just a class above. Ain't nothing better in the current Squier line.

My son loves his tele for blues. See the thread on the 9 y/o. Has a video of him on his affinity. It gets good tone, although I still like a strat better.

My standard fat Tele on the neck bucker through a Pro Junior belts some good tones out.

It's a tough question, because blues is such a wide spectrum. Do you mean old-school Chicago blues, Mississippi hill country trance blues, delta blues, Texas blues, west coast swing blues, east coast jump blues, blues-rock, rock-blues, etc.? Do you like to play really clean (Buddy Guy on Hoodoo Man Blues) or really dirty (modern Buddy Guy), or somewhere in between?

Having said all that, I play blues and I've just fallen in love with a plain old Squier Affinity BSB tele through my Pro Junior. I'm not accomplished enough to have mastered a particular subgenre of blues, but I enjoy all of the above. I kept my Squier stock for the first 5 months and am now putting a Nocaster pickup in the neck position and a 4-way switch in. I am partial to Chicago blues -- pretty clean most of the time.

Forgot to mention -- I was told once that a person had never heard a tele sound so fat. I was just playing my Affinity through the Pro Jr.

If you're more towards the rock end of the spectrum, you might find the thinline or deluxe teles with humbuckers more to your liking.

HTH,
Bob

Thanks for the input.. My style is Delta, and Texas blues. I really like the sound of the squier CV Custom tele. Raises the hair on the back of my neck! I'm even thinking of building my own with GFS or StewMac parts. I just need to get to a guitar store and try everything..Thanks very much...

if you like the CV custom so much, why bother trying to "build your own" when they're so inexpensive?

I picked up a CVC IN Fairfax a few weeks ago and love it. Absolutely love it. It's the First Tele, I've really been this in love with in a loooong time.

I've got a Gretsch, a Strat, A Les Paul and I love them all, but this finishes out my classic sonic palette (well, this and the SG downstairs with P-rails in it, but that's another forum!).

I raised the pickups a hair and it increased the creaminess of the neck and the bite of the bridge without losing much twang at the same time. I play Blues and Rockabilly stuff and this thing is a guitar of beauty. I didn't think I'd find a Squier this nice, ever. Only thing I want to do is upgrade the switch. I've contemplated a humbucker for the neck, but haven't committed yet. I'm pretty happy with the clarity of the current pickups.

Sounds great with some germanium fuzz type hair on it too!

Squier Affinity BSB tele is what I have also. It really is something special and blues is what I mostly play. They look cool and every singe unit I've played felt and played great. Very consistant.

+1 The BSB is very versatile, and I love the way mine plays. Fingers just glide across the fretboard.
