New pg on son's BSB Affinity tele
Check it out. Kinda over the top, but my son loves it. A local blues guy that is also a craftsman made this and gave it to my boy. It is hand-tooled leather over a Fender Pg. Fits almost perfectly. The boy feels like he has a custom guitar now.

Yup. A little too much for me, but he saw a lot of guitars with custom stuff at the blues festival over the weekend and it fired him up even more. Whatever it takes to keep him playing. Hopefully I'll have a vid of him soon. He's darn good to be only 9 y/o. He's in two bands, both playing this weekend and makes enough cash to keep him in strings and bubble gum. And that's what it's about right? He will literally play for food and does. : )

I think the key word(s) is that he's 9. Not 18. So it probably doesn't matter what us old farts think of it to him. ha

And all the old farts around here are starting to take notice of his ability. I'm amazed at his natural ability to play. He plays with a lot of feeling - he's not just repeating back what he hears on the CD. He does his own thing. We'll gladly let him be the centerpiece of the band, if it gets us playing, ya know???

Nine? Wow, that's awesome. And when he grows up a bit and learns about true vintage guitar coolness, as I am sure he will considering who his old man is, you can always help him restore its vintage look with a nice black Bakelite pickguard.

We kept the black stock one. He can appreciate the vintage look. He chose the BSB over the other teles when we were shopping for it. He already appreciates it to a degree, but he is 9. The white gtr in the photo is a 2001 Peavey LTD HSS with flag graphics - again, over the top, but he bought it himself with money he saved, got a heck of a deal ($200) on a gtr built in USA (PEavey's custom shop). And the other gtr is my old 66 musicmaster, which he wouldn't part with for anything.
He is beginning to understand and develop his own "tone". He wants his playing to sound like him, not SRV or EC or anyone else. I am definitely the proud dad.

I think it looks really cool. Looks like a Martian landscape with planets in the sky and a pretty lady. He's 9 years old? I saw a 3 piece band play a couple months ago, maybe the musicians were 10 to 15 years old and a big crowd of 5 to 10 year old girls were attracted to them, dancing to their music.

The guy that made it said people liked his western stuff but no one has really went for the sci fi look.
The band my son plays bass in is a 4pc from him at 9 to the drummer at 14. Their classmates love em. None of them have really discovered girls yet. So that hasn't been a driving force. Yet.
And our blues band that he plays gtr in is a "bunch of old guys" to him, but he likes playing his guitar with us. The adult musicians treat him like any other musician, short of offering him a beer or smokes....
And it's something we can do together for now.

He's loving it right now. Put his initials up in the corner of the body - he feels like he's got a real custom now. And it is personalized to him. The guys in the band liked it too, so he's pretty fired up right now.
