I just decided I had to do it one day. Back in grade school I had a woodworking class, but my stool was lopsided, and my breadbox wouldn't close once opened and my birdhouse was never occupied.
So I had pretty much written off woodworking. That is until I saw this guy going at it. My assistant told me I'd never pull the build off, so that kinda lit a flame if you know what I mean.
I went into it with every detail well thought out. I used a bandsaw, a dremel, a rechargeable drill and some sandpaper. I just took my time, and oddly enough I had the body done and ready for nitro in 4 days or about 12 hours (I worked on it after getting home from my day job).
Once I showed it to my asst. he knew I was seriously thinking about this. He played the guitar and was pretty surprised. He now uses my guitar as a benchmark for others he plays and buys. The resonance is amazing, the action is slinky and the tone is pure honey. The guitar weighs in at 6 lbs. on the money and is one of the more charished items I have now.
I wasn't sure if I got lucky or was on too something, so I built the telemaster with the same success. I guess I'm good at building guitars...who would have thought that?! But now I'm just kinda not in the mood to build anymore. I have one more chunk of pine saved, but nothing really excites me enough to build right now.
I'd suggest trying it. I had great fun, learned alot and a great piece to show my friends.
