Default Weight ?

I have noticed on Sweetwaters site, that they list the weight of each guitar when doing the comparisons of the same model.
Some times the difference is quite a bit, like 6 to 8 oz. Would the heavier or lighter be more suitable? I understand the heavier might be a disadvantage if you had to stand for any length of time. But I am referring to the benefit of the guitar itself, like affecting sustain or tone.

In most cases, more weight equals more sustain. I was a Les Paul player for years and could really notice the difference in tone and sustain with L.P. models as some models could differ in weight by close to 2 lbs ! The heaviest guitar I've ever owned was an older model Epiphone L.P. which tipped the scale at over 11 lbs. but had tone and sustain for days !
