Default Tremolo Block for Indonesian Squire Affinity Strat

I am having some prototypes made up of a Tremolo Block for my Indonesian Squire Affinity Strat. I tried using a Guitar Fetish block, but it sticks out the back and it is too wide.

Should have the first one later this week. Any interest out there? I will keep you posted on the results.

Rich

Welcome to the forum StratCat. I just
cut a short piece of wood and use a
pocket knife to perfect the fit. Then I
drive it in. It never comes out and it
is solid,

Some tremolos take two pieces,

The whole thing is done quicker than I
can drive to Lowes.

I've seen the store bought ones, but
you can tell that there may be a need
for a modification. One just can't fit
them all. Not the way they make them.
At least I haven't seen a good universal
design.

Good luck with it,

For the money that it'll probably cost you to have one specially made, it'd probably be cheaper to buy a block from guitar fetish and have it machined down a little bit.

That is what I am doing with the first one or two. I was thinking about selling a few if there is interest.

It sure is fun hot-rodding the Affinitys...

Not to change the subject, but this reminds
me;

There was a guy here who bought an Affinity
Strat off CL.

The ad said that it needed a new battery but
they could not get the old battery out????

It turned out someone had used a battery as
a tremolo block, lol

Many people would like to know a forum member that could sell them a trem block for their affinity or bullet model. You may be on to something there. I'm sure us forum members would spread the word!

I see people buying them here.
May well be a good idea,

My first prototype is ready and I will be checking it out on a guitar tomorrow afternoon. I will be asking the machine shop for a quote for a small run. Of course, the more he makes, the cheaper they get! Stay tuned for updates.

nomadh, I'll have to look into that one, too. Do you have one? If so, in what country was it made and what year? I've had a bunch of Squires over the years. Some made in Mexico, but this 2009 Indonesian Affinity is really sounding good. Put some Custom Shop '69's in it that I had laying around and I can't put it down!

I'm swapping parts currently on 2 to make what amounts to a roadworn cherry sunburst with a maple neck. Dont recall the date. They are both the 2 pt trem.

Also stratophobic, I did buy the whole trem assembly and am hoping the block and saddles will swap onto the the plate. It sure would be nice if gfs would just state it in the advert. I hear at best you need to ream out the trem arm hole in the plate a bit.

i had bounced around the idea of having a brass one made by my machine shop, but the cost of the brass just wasn't worth it

so i found a piece of cold rolled flat bar, and had the guy machine it
material wold have cost me about $5.00 ish and his time is $30.00 plus a hour if i had to pay him so other than having a perfect affinity sized block, cost wise it wasn't worth it

Yeah, the saddles fit too and I liked them better than the block saddles

I've attached a picture showing the first block. Looks like it is going to work just fine. A little tight on one side, but it doesn't make contact. The original block was like that, too. Going to string it up and play it now!

I'm building an Affinity project for my brother and I've ran into the same problem with the replacement block. I am interested in these also!!

I've had a number of GFS blocks machined down to fit my Squiers. You have to mill 2mm off the top and 2mm off the bottom. See this thread for info & pics
