Default Advice on upgrading & building

Some questions about pots first -

How much impact do the pots have on sound?

What is the difference between 250k & 500k???

Do you get better and worse quality or are they just basic electrics?

If some are recommended where to find them?

I am re-building a refinished squier II.
The Squier II pickups are shorter and fatter so will stick with them (otherwise many changes needed). I have new 500k pots for it. But are 250k better?

For the British Racing Green Affinity

I picked up some of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

How can I tell the neck from middle and bridge? They read 5.78 / 5.96 / 6.12 . The Squier II pups read 7.84 / 8.30 / 8.40 - can you tell much from this? I'm looking for a warm and kinda ringy vintage tone -

What other upgrades are recommended? Thinking about GFS trem and some new tuners for the Squier II... Nut? etc...

Thank you O Strat gurus

pots have a minimal impact on sound IMO. higher quality pots are preferred more for their durability and construction.

the higher the number of the pot, the brighter. 500k is brighter than 250k.

pickup resistance numbers go up from neck to bridge. smallest is neck, highest is bridge.

Pesky is correct. I would say if tuning is an issue change the tuners and nut. Changing the block might improve the tone and sustain by a minimal amount, so change those later.

If you want a vintage sound then the pups you bid on will give you that type of sound, notice BTW that they are ceramic though. The Squier II's are definitely wound hotter than vintage. I think a vintage Alnico II will give you that warm vintage tone better, check out the GFS Premium Alnico II for that kind of tone you're looking for.
