Snapped Back to Reality
I'll admit it. I was led astray. I Absolutely Love my Metallic Black colored Squier Standard Fat Strat. It ,and my Ibby Sunburst AS-73 Semi Hollow allowed my Guitar Dream's to be fullfilled.
But then I started thinking.... Maybe an Epi SG would help fill that Metal gap I have. Don't get me wrong, The Strat with it's Hummbucker does Heavy Metal pretty well. And the Ibby has Good tones for that Epic Rock sound.
After playing several SG's and Les Paul's I came away unfullfilled. I did'nt like the fat neck's at all. Everything I tried could'nt compare to my Strat.
Then it Hit me ! I need to buy another Strat and just put Hummbucker's in the Neck and Bridge . I'll keep a nice Single coil in the Middle and then I'll have the Heavy Metal guitar of my Dream's.
3 guitars , along with the obligatory Acoustic , and I will have all my bases covered.
Has anyone else Stayed away from their Strat's only to discover that the Grass isn't any Greener on that other side ?

I started out learning to play about 20 months ago using an EPI SG G400 Cherry. Just kept playing and playing..and wasnt getting it. Then I picked up what I thought was a surf green (Daphene Blue) bullet at a local music shop and all the stuff I was struggling to play on the SG I could play and play damn near perfect on the little strat. I'm now a bonified Squier fan and proud of it. And in fact I like the affinity skinny necks better than the bullets. I have stubby fingers and the affinity necks are easy for me to reach the shapes.

My first real guitar was a Gibby Sg, then got a Gibby LP, I love them both. Got a Strat standard for Christmas and I have found after playing about 30 min on the gibbys, the Strat feels more natural in my hands and (maybe in my own mind) I can scream around the fret board. I would not sell either gibby ( they do look purty on the stable walls) but always gravitate back the Strat to finish my practice session.
The grass is greener on the other side but just as hard to mow

I made that journey, but started in Gibby land and slowly but surely landed in FenderLand. My metal desires are easily met by my double fat Strat, my HSS Squier II, and (bordering on heresy) my mid 80's Ibanez RG 560. Oh! and My Squier M-80.

I recently bought a Schecter Omen 6 brand new cause it sounded sweet with double humbuckers...but I keep coming back to my strat. Considering trading it in for a Tele if I can do that...It plays very nicely, but the strat is just so...well, I don't know how to put it, but it sounds so good why would I want to go anywhere else?

After I got my Squier Strat with 3 single coils, I never really much enjoyed playing my double humbucker Ibanez. Granted that was due in large part to the neck not being as nice to play and the balance just not 'quite right'.
Solution? I traded in the Ibanez and got another 3 single coil guitar; only this one is a Peavey Generation Triple Single EXP. Much nicer to play than the Ibanez and great strat/tele sound.

I remember having the same thought a few guitars ago
Gibson necks are bigger but for playing some things I need the room on the fingerboard or the sound.
I might buy a Gibson type guitar someday. I had a Les Paul before, enjoyed it for many years.
Sometimes I think I should have bought a Line 6 guitar, it emulates lots of different models.

There is other option. Squier hot rails, Strat with humbuckers , single coil size. It's a good option for people like me that I don't like making mods very much.
Oh yes , there are strat squiers with humbuckers at neck in stock but I like the Hot Rails more

I too have felt a need to have a thick sounding Les Paul as of late. I play Squier Tele's and I need a guitar that can rock out with balls. Perhaps I need a J5 instead of a Les Paul. Any Squier J5 players out there? I want it to do classic rock from the 60's and 70's. Opinions please?

Welcome to Squier Talk. You are gonna like it here. Go to the official Squier website and look at the specs on the J5. It looks to be a good fit for those of us that like the fender necks and bodies but want extra metal at times. I don't think John5 would have made a signature he wouldn't play. The price is pretty reasonable to. The binding on that thing looks good too.
