Most cities have what is commonly referred to as a "red light district" I'm not sure what your preference is but in this day and age I would be suprised if you could not find what you are looking for whether it's animal, vegetable, or mineral. Craigslist is also notorious for this kind of thing - check your local instance. You could also cruise local cemetaries and funeral parlors or even the city morgue. Good Luck!

Perhaps the least expensive bodies might be guitars sold at yard sales or through the local newspaper or craigslist.org ads - the guitars with warped necks or damage, perhaps missing some parts.
If you have tools then you might consider wooden pallets recovered from a dumpster. I remember a guy planing those boards smooth, gluing them together with dowels, sanding it, building a real nice baby crib. I would have never guessed it came from a wood pallet. It might be possible to make a nice guitar body from scrap wood for little money.

flea markets can be a hot bed of what some would consider junk. gotta be careful though, there's a lot of sellers who are convinced they have gold when in fact, they've gotta chunk of lead.

rh9159 is the Discount Guitar Outlet username. I've gotten necks off of the this guy. Great to work with and a fast shipper. Prices are good too!
