MIJ Strat question
Hey Everyone...the other day I bought this MIJ Strat. The price was right, about 150. I don't know that I've ever seen this before on an MIJ Squier. I got a couple of answers, but no real information from the folks at Strat Talk, and my impression was not to bother at 21 Frets unless it was a JV model. I thought I'd ask you guys if you've ever seen something like this before. That's question one... Here are a couple of pics...
So, I bought it with the idea that I would put a mint green pickguard on it and some single coils ala Blackmore. Someone told me that this might have some value beyond the 150 I paid for it, so now I don't know. I wanted to reach out to all of you. Fender has no info on this guitar at all, so I'm stumped. Thoughts?
I'd appreciate any thoughts you guys might have.
Matt

Some kind of a contemporary strat, I like the pearlescent body, the headstock black though ... not matching up well. Nice find for sure, auctions on these type vary as they are not as desirable as traditional strats. I'd sell the neck to fund a more traditional-look one. Make it a player.

So are you saying that this may not be original? Selling the neck separately isn't something I'd consider. I'd just as soon sell it than part it out.
I guess this guitar has everyone stumped, huh? No one has ever seen a Squier like this before? I don't want to ruin a potentially rare Strat by modding it, and I was hoping that someone could provide some insight as to it's origin and value.

Doesn't that serial number mean it was from the earlier days of Squier? We have another thread around here that shows what the specific serial numbers mean.

For hte E series:
E = Young Chang,
wikipedia info
Young Chang manufactured Squier electric guitars and basses for Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, and also manufactured electric guitars and basses under their own "Fenix" brand. However, because of the similarities to the Fender brand and instruments, Young Chang could not sell the Fenix instruments due to licensing issues with Fender, and production stopped.
Since the headstock says Made in Japan, this is definitely a Young Chang version, I'd wager.
