I've been enjoying the '89 I got a few weeks ago on eBay..
It plays really great and sounds fantastic through my new Vox 15R.

The only thing I wasn't keen on was the original 1 ply white pickguard..
I had a mint green I took off a Robert Cray model I parted out so today I took a couple hours to tinker.

I removed the original guard and then shielded the cavities with copper.
I moved everything over to the Cray guard, locked down the trem and restrung it with 10's.

I'm happy with the end result

Here are a few pics~

Before changes:

The original guard and electronics:

Check out the color change over the years:

Shielding done, seams soldered: (had to drill some new holes too)

Electronics out, nicely aged PUP covers:

and finally, the end result all back together and playing fine again ~

That's the only change I'm going to make for now..
I know there are things that could be upgraded, but I'm really happy with the way it plays now~

I guess wine isn't the only thing that gets better with age.

that turned out very nice. if it had been me with all of those parts laying there, I never would have gotten everything back in. I'd have extra parts leftover.
