Aha, so this is the thread where I should post this:
http://www.squier-talk.com/forum/squ...r-cyclone.html
I've had it for a while now, and still love it.

Anyway, a copule of words for those who haven't seen it in person yet:
the neck is pretty much made in the same fashion as those on a squier standard strat:
satin finish, skunk stripe, decent die cast tuners,
42 mm wide nut, as well as roughly the same profile as standard, save for scale length of course.
Body seems to be alder, and it's way more durable than standard's agathis. How do i now? Well, I somehow manage to drop every new guitar I get at least three times as soon as I get it...

This one still has no cracks, not even superficial... Heavier than strat, despite the size, too.
It has a swimming pool route, which is cool for pickup configuration mods, I guess.
Pots also seem to be different than those on a standard strat: from the way they act I'd say they're audio taper.
Toggle switch: well, there's really no difference in sound between neck and middle position. I hear they're all like that... And the cap kept falling off so i glued it on! I'll reconcider installing those jag-mustang swithces...
The pickups: can't say what kind are they, or if they're found on any other squiers... But they're definitely not fender pickups, as some people on the net suggest.
Neck pup has staggered polepieces and sounds brighter that the one one on my strat.
If i compare the bridge pickup to the alnico on my epiphone SG, the cyclone has more output and a better balance; perhaps a tad more clarity, but at the same time perhaps lacks a bit of character, that is, sounds a bit sterile.
Definitely not vintage sounding, but not bad at all. (except if you're 20 or younger and consider early 90s music 'vintage'

).
I think it's safe to assume these were made with heavy use of effect pedals in mind.
Great guitar for the money, overall I'd say it's better than a squier standard, and they were cheaper new.
Personally, the only thing I don't like is the original pickguard, makes it look like just another strat knockoff. (though I guess it's ok if you want a duosonic lookalike).

I'll probably slip in a single coil bridge pickup at one point too, but for now I like it as it is, and it very well may become my no.1, as soon as I swap that crappy, chewing gum - like poor excuse for a nut.
