Default Duo-Sonic neck finish

Of my three Squiers (Tele, Jagmaster and Duo-Sonic), the Duo-Sonic was my least favorite. However, I've been fiddling with it and I'm starting to appreciate it. I've got some Gretsch 10-46 strings on it, lowered the action and nipped off a bit of the saddle adjustment height screws so they wouldn't dig into my hand when palm muting. It has a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail humbucker pickup at the neck with coil tap. (That thing is HOT). It's starting to work for me now. It feels good and I'm getting good sounds.

The neck has a high gloss like it was dipped in liquid acrylic. When you sweat there is a great deal of stiction on this, I find. My other guitars have a matte finish which gradually goes glossy with use, but there is no stiction.

Does anyone have any suggestions for wearing-in a glossy neck in a jiffy, or somehow dealing with this sort of finish?

0000 Steel wool, but tape up the pickups, jacks, etc.
