Default $100 - Squier MIM 1998 P bass??

I accidentally posted some questions in Heavy Metal Thunder....so sorry about this as a repeat.

I'm looking at maybe picking up a serial number MN8XXX made in Mexico Squier P-Bass.
It's NOT the large black Fender logo, with small "Squier Series" on the ball end - its a large gold "Squier" with black outline logo.

Obviously made in Mexico, in 1998, and a Squier.

Does anyone know anything about the quality of the necks or bodies?
I'm not as concerned about electronics or pups....

It's a long trip for me to go see it, so I'm trying to get some advance intel....there's next to nothing about these on the internets....

thanks....

Hay Hudson,

It should be a regular P bass neck.
It should be well dressed and plush
finish.

They are hit or miss as far as whether
it is actually a good neck or not. I would
not buy one sight unseen.

If you like the traditional neck, that is
what it is on many of those MIM P basses
from that time.

If you like a Jazz neck, it may feel thick
big.

What's a good price - I'm thinking about offering $80?

Any ideas on how these MIMs compare to other Squier basses from other "eras" or countries?

$100 for a used P Bass isn't out of range. You have to keep in mind that Bass prices are almost always $50-$60 higher than a guitar. Come to think of it EVERYTHING bass guitar is a lot more expensive than a guitar.

As far as how they compare, I have yet to play a Squier Bass that wasn't a nice playing bass. Squier can be hit or miss on their guitars sometimes but almost always produce nice basses.

Anyhoo, if you can grab it for $100 I think you did pretty good and if he goes for $80 even better.

MIM Squiers are essentially Fender MIM necks and bodies with Asian-sourced hardware and electronics. They are great instrument for upgrading.

$100 is a very good price, even less is better.
