Here is my work in proress:
Bronco bass. MODS: new US made electronics: CTS pots and jack, vintage style "pushback" wiring, GFS lipstick tube pickup, "Witches Hat" knobs, Musicmaster bridge with 4 adjustable saddles and through the body stringing, Hipshot ultralight tuners with 1/2" tuning posts.
Next will be a custom pickguard and a new paint job (foam greaan) when the weather gets warmer. I may add an Aero pickup as well, but I am not sure yet.

With one obvious exception, I decided to keep my Affinity Squier P a sleeper.
I even left the original slightly warped pickguard on it and the standard issue nylon strap to keep it 'Q-Ship" looking.
No-one can tell if there are different p'ups in it - they look stock. No-one can see the extra electronics - they are under the PG.
The thumb rest is really the only thing that stands out to a novice, although they might think it's a beer holder.
Honestly - I think bass players play for other bass players. The audience can't tell if you have good/bad/horrible p'ups or a set of ROTO strings. All the audience hears is the 'thump' and low notes - and most times they don't even know who's making all that noise.
I've seen basses and guitars with enough switches and knobs and bling to operate the Starship Enterprise, and all the eye candy won't impress anyone but a kid.

Nice looking bass, AllroyPA.
How do you like the shortscale compared to normal scale on the bass? I used to play a Fender P bass but the Kay I've got now is a shortscale. The Kay seems 'crisper' if that makes any sense.

You know my bad it's 32" scale so it's considered medium scale, and helz ya it plays great ~!

I like this game!
I love showing off my Squiers, mainly because people can't believe what they're hearing. My first one is a Squier Musicmaster Bass:

DiMarzio ProTrac pup, push/pull for series/parallel, Mustang plate, black knobs
My othe fav is my Squier MB-4:

HipShot 'A' bridge, HipShot X-tender, GFS J-pup, D'Addario flatwounds
I might add a little more chrome, since it's just not shiny enough.

2009 Standard P Bass Special mod - HMV bridge!

2009 Squier P Bass Standard Special with Hi Mass Vintage bridge and Dean Markley Alchemy light strings. The brass and gold go so well with the Antique Burst finish, and make the bass really amazing. From deep lows to guitar-like highs, this is one amazing bass. Sounds so much better than the Schecters and Ibanez I tried before buying this sweet bass.

Hey Slotrod.
It looks good!
I just got a bronco with a broken tuner, so I'd like to know what model tuners you put on yours. Is there a model number or something?
Thanks,
Old Nick

Getting ready to mod Squier Affinity P-Bass...any advice?
I have a Squier Affinity P-Bass (made in Indonesia in 2000) and am looking to do some upgrades. My inclination is to go "Fender vintage" i.e. Fender original1962 P-Bass pickup, Fender P-Bass/Jazz Bass Vintage bridge assembly and Fender replacement vintage nickel tuners. I would also like to replace the pickguard and screws at some point, but understand that Squier pickguards are not consistent in the hole placement/# of holes. Does anyone have some other recommentations (i.e. should I replace pots, wiring etc.)? I hope to fool her into thinking she's real a P-Bass!
The other choices could be a Dimarzio DP127 split P replacement pickup or Seymour Duncan Basslines SB-3 Quater Pound P-Bass pickup and Badass II bridge.
Any feedback from anyone who is familiar with some of these is greatly appreciated!

I don't have first hand experience with those P pickups. But from what I've read, I would want the Fender Original for more old school.
I have a Squier J(azz)Bass V in black. I have some Lindy Fralins from another bass that will be going in. On the way are some CTS 250 pots and a Mallory cap in a wiring harness I bought already soldered together (taking the easy way on that one).
I'm thinking about a refin in Fiesta Red (Coral Reranch) or Capri Orange. Squiers frikin rock. Great bass.

My Squier Bronco has been modded a bit.
Hotrail pickup, new black pickguard, Tele style knobs and a thumbrest.
Great little bass, these Broncos are seriously underrated IMO
