OK - it's finally done! Meet Miss Cora's Motown cousin, Mista Corry! Talk about solid, sweet and low down!!! Those LaBella Flat Wound strings are so easy on the fingers, and produce excellent, really deep and smooth BASS!!! Those are the original Squier P-bass pickups too. I've got to think that the Gotoh 201 bridge and the Tusq nut have helped extend the sustain too. This thing is a monster!

Is it just the pics or my eyes or is that "coral" a bit on the pumpkin-ish side?

It's the Reranch coral color, which I believe was based on faded fiesta red. Most folks figured that the early "coral" color Strats and Tele's were actually just faded fiesta red guitars, so I think this is why Reranch developed this shade of their "coral" color.
Tahitian Coral (which Fender used on at least one factory finished 1961 Strat) was a Chrysler Motors color from around 1958. Tahitian Coral is a slightly (but perceptable) different color.
Premier Guitar magazine had an article in it about that 1961 Tahitian Coral Strat last year (see the photo below), which I Emailed to Reranch, asking them to consider having a batch made up, since there was so much interest in that TC Strat. I received an Email saying they'd look into it, but nothing has happened yet.

The Starbucks on Hawthorne, eh? I'm gonna have to start hanging out back over on the East side more often.
I second all the good stuff everybody's had to say about this bass. I have the same thing in black - I bought it years ago just to have a decent "meat & potatoes" bass around and never regretted that decision. I've gigged, jammed, and recorded with it, and it's still my go-to when I need it.

Thanks!
Including the cost of the bass, finish materials (left over from my "Miss Cora" Strat project), Gotoh 201 chrome bridge, neckplate, Tusc nut, pots, jack, LaBella strings and GFS pickguard, I've got about $150 into it (with many hours of labor!)

Actually it is 'way better than fun.
It sets the mood and the foundation of the music. The kick drum and the bass are the driving force in music (well, music that uses them, that is) and it gets the audience moving - something a guitar or horns cannot do. It's almost primitive in the way it controls the mood.
Let the bass just stop in a song and it all falls apart.
Besides - when you play a bass you are really in control of the band. You drive so much power and authority that the band slows down or speed up to your output.
One interesting aspect of playing a bass - it is so intensive that you usually cannot sing along with the group. I find that when I sing, I start running with the bassline and then I am countering the melody and singing the bass harmony. That won't usually work.
My hat's off to those who can do it - Smits is a very good example.

Thanks for the props - it looks way better in person. It was either tortoiseshell or mint green, so I decided to go with the tortoiseshell PG.
$25? Wow!!! Now THAT is a steal of a deal!!! That's the deal of the century! Congrats!

Yeah it was a rather interesting find. The color is more dusty rose. But for $25 I could repaint it. It was a girl going off to college and needed the cash to move. I got a gig bag with it too.

I must admit, I am jealous of the CL treasures. I searched CL for weeks before deciding I could not wait any longer to get my first bass. Musician's Friend had sent me a 20% coupon that would expire on Monday, so I bought the entire Squier Affinity JBass starter package. At least now I have what I need to get started playing while I continue to look for the great CL deals.

I have a Squier Affinity P-Bass (also Baltic Blue/Rosewood, made in Indonesia in 2000) I bought for $100. The neck is very sweet but I'm looking to do some upgrades. My inclination is to go "Fender vintage" i.e. Fender original 1962 P-Bass pickup, Fender P-Bass/Jazz Bass Vintage bridge assembly and Fender replacement vintage nickel tuners. Any other suggestions?I hope to fool her into thinking she's real a P-Bass!

Go with a GraphTech nut too. They're bone color, and the difference in sustain and tuning stability is really worth it.

Good job!
I seen a bass just like this at the local pawn shop. 20th Anniversary and everything. I will be getting it Friday. Merry freakin' Christmas to me!
