Default Squier Mystery bass?

My friend and I just bought this Squier Jazz Bass. It says its a standard series on the headstock. I have been looking for info, specs original price and reviews on it but I cant seem to find this exact model anywhere. Mine has no pick guard and is a nice blue color. Made in Indonesia in I would guess 2000 by the serial number. Also the headstock matches the body color. Also the output is not on the face of the guitar is down on the bottom edge.

We got it for $60 since it has a pick-up that isnt working. I would imagine the problem is a bad pot or some wireing. Other than that it needs a bit of TLC and a clean up and it will be a nice bass. Love the nice blue color.

Sorry for the poor pic quality...

Any info you could give me about it would be appreciated!

Thank you,
Jeff

Pick-up is now fixed, had a wire come off. Rattles so it needs a set-up.

Can anyone tell me anything about this bass?

Not really other than I'd agree that it was probably made in 2000 at the Cort factory in Indonesia. It was basically one of the "contemporary" models in the Standard series I'd guess. I say that because of the black painted headstock face, rear loading controls and the lack of a pickguard.

Thanks for the help SJ!!

I have been looking for a similar one on-line and I havent found one.

Whats the difference between the Standard series and the Affinity series?

What do you think mine would have cost new? I am trying to figure out if I got a good deal or not.

Thanks again for your help!

Jeff

The Affinity series are cheaper models than the Standard. Affinities usually have lower quality hardware and slightly lesser features.

I have no idea what yours would have cost new. New Squier Standard Jazz basses sell online for around $280. I can say that on the used market here in Austin they typically sell in the $80-$150 price range, possibly a little more to the the right buyer. Jazz basses sometimes bring a little more than P basses just because they aren't quite as common, and ones with two pickups like yours usually go for a little more than the single pickup models.

That is a nice looking bass. Good job fixing that pickup problem, you saved a lot of money.

You might be careful if you plug that bass into a regular amp. I burned out a speaker that way. Playing at low volume through a guitar amp is OK.

Thanks again SJ for helping out a newb. I was just looking for more info on it. Google nor anything else turned up much on it. Looks like I got a good deal.

Yeahdoit: Yea man I have a cheapo (Johnson) 10 watt bass amp that I use. its really a POS but it will do for now and it was free.

How large (wattage) bass amps are you guys using to practice with? I see some decently priced Behringer 60 watt bass amps around here. I think they are a BX600. Look like they got a 12" speaker in them. Looking for somthing loud enough to play with a drum set and other guitars.

Thanks again for the help!

Unfortunately bass needs lots of wattage. For practice I'd recommend at least 50 watts and a 1x15" cabinet. That Behringer has decent wattage but I don't like 12" speakers for bass. For playing in a band situation (back in the day) I used to use a 200 watt Peavey bass amp head with 2 2x15" Kustom tuck-n-roll cabinets. For band practice you could get away with only one 2x15" cabinet... but with less than 100 watts or so on bass you will too often get lost with a live drummer. Unfortunately they can't do much to "turn down". Guitarists at least can usually turn down their volume if they've got a decent amp. It can be a battle sometimes to get them to do it if they don't have a very versatile rig because it can sometimes be hard to get the right tone at lower volumes.

Default Indonesia made Jazz Standard Bass

Hello, all. I'm sorry if this is a repost. I searched long and hard through most of the forums and found no info that I needed. I have a Squier Jazz Bass, Standard, 20 frets. My brother bought it for me used. It's one that was made in Indonesia. I don't know how to run the serial numbers on it, so hopefully you can help me. The serial # is either
ICO or IC020733145. Not sure of the year made, quality, original MSRP and can not find any reviews. It's black with a white pick guard, maole neck, rosewood fret-board. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!
