What to do with the loaded MIM pickgaurd with Ceramics VS GFS Alnicos??
Well I am learning every day Thanks to all who have shared your knowledge with me. I have the loaded MIM pickgaurd with ceramic SSS that are all around 7K. Now I am not sure if I should put it in one of my guitars or sell it.
I am selling the Tanara strat copy (plays great electronics suck and its not a Squier!) and I think I will sell my Affinity the neck just feels a little small to me.
So I have the Bullet Left cause I won't touch the CV 60's. I love how the bullet feels and plays but there is a lot of hum and crackeling I don't get with the other Squires.
I guess I could try it (MIM Ceramics + Electronics) and see how it works in it but I was going to order an electrical upgrade kit, hook up wire, guitar solder, and a set of Strat overwound Alnico stagger pickups from Guitar fetish.
Any advice from those of you who have modded would help. If I had more time I would just try it but with 4 kids and 2 jobs right now time is precious. The bullet is the one my 12 year old daughter is learning on and I want it to sound good for her (she will probably end up with it anyway) and the whole family gets to listen to her.

R U clowning around again! LOL
I posted when I got it and it seemed that people in general don't like the ceramics. I will put it on this weekend and see how it sounds. I guess I am looking for a reason to spend $$ I don't have so I can try some GFS overwound or blues Alnico pups.

Tanara isn't a name you hear a lot. I had a Tanara Strat and a Tanara bass about 7 year ago when I first started playing. What does yours look like?

Hum I can understand, maybe something is not shielded or not grounded. Is the crackling sound associated with volume or tone controls, or maybe when the guitar cord is moved in the connector socket?

I am not knocking GFS pickups, but I would think that the MIM electronics would be a lot better than the ones in the bullet. I personally don't think that the MIM pickups are that bad. You have to realize that when you get a reply about pickups, the replies are based on the tones and type of music the person likes. Also what equipment they have.
You are comparing the electronics in a 100 guitar (new price) to a 4 to 500 dollar guitar, to a set of pickups that are about 16 dollars each.
Over on other forums I have seen guys put the GFS pickups in and then take them out and put the original ones back in.
I think many guys put way too much emphasis on the pickups, type of wood, type of tuners and not enough on the pots, wiring and amplifiers.
I would spend my money on getting a good tube amp, and a couple of pedals . Then you can make just about anything sound good. IMHO.

I like the MIM ceramic pickups. They are a little overwound and on the hot side of things. When people say they don't like them, it may just be that they don't like hotter pickups on their Strats. Give 'em a spin. You may like 'em.

how about getting some noiseless pickups for the Bullet. Like the Neovins from GFS?
