Default Humbucker metal covers

Are these made into the pickup or can u take the cover off say a stock one and put it on a Duncan or GFS that you buy to repleace stock ones?? Or would the aftermarket one have to have the cover come on it?

They are usually soldered to the baseplate, would be a tricky switch ...
