soundclips of GFS (Guitar Fetish) pre-wired pickguard
i recorded this in case you're wondering what they sound like. this is not the one with the GFS-branded pickups. this is the cheaper one (currently $53), but it does have Alnico V pickups.
ALNICO Pickup Pre-Wired Guard- White Pearl- MAJOR UPGRADE!

they are. clean and low output, at least my set are. i like the low output for a clean sound. definitely wouldn't be the pickups for overdriving an amp.
i am actually surprised at how nice they sound for the price.

I agree that they sound very good for a budget set but I'm willing to bet peskypesky can make any pickup sound good.

You make me sick, Pesky.
I have the same pups in my MIK Strat and I can't get it to sound nearly that good. Nice work!

lol
well, look, this forum, and other guitar forums, definitely stir up the mania of guitar-modding and GAS. i'm a prime example. i had one strat a year ago. then i discovered Strat Talk. now i have 6 or 7 strats. I've lost count. And i've replaced numerous pickups and nuts and trem-blocks and....
it can be good fun, and it can be educational. here's some things i didn't know a year ago (before Strat Talk): the difference between ceramic and alnico pickups, how to set up a guitar, how to solder, what a pot is, what a cap is, the importance of a good nut, etc etc etc
BUT the down side of these forums is that we get so caught up in the minute details of the equipment that we neglect the MOST IMPORTANT THING! Playing.
And what I've tried to demonstrate with my videos using Bullets and Douglas guitars and GFS pickups, is that you CAN get very good sounds from inexpensive equipment these days. You just can.
But you have to put more time into playing and less into modding. And I'm not trying to toot my own horn, cause i know there's a million guitar players out there who can destroy me.
I guess what i'm getting at is that it's very easy to get sucked into the near-madness of TONE-CHASING.
And sure, equipment is important. But it's not the most important thing. I need to play more. I need to practice more. I need to push myself. I need to learn new things. Yesterday I learned two Duke Ellington songs. And believe me, the sense of accomplishment from that is greater than the sense of accomplishment from putting in a new trem-block. It also impresses people more.

Very well said. I think that may be the reason why Squier Talk is my favorite forum--lots of folks who realize that the name on the headstock, or how much cash you shelled out, or how many mods you do, the bottom line is to play the guitar because its fun, it's creative, it keeps you young. Beautiful playing pesky. I'm more of a player than a modder or guitar owner, but you've inspired me to start recording some of the stuff I play.

hey pesky, I know the gfs alnico wired pg does not use their pups, but are the pots the full size 250s? I just got a 89 squier II and it has the ceramic pups and the tiny pots. I know this is not the best guit, but figured I would use it as a mod.

I find the opposite...
I have played for 12 years, used to play for hours every day.
This year, my love for playing had disappeared (I was geting bored being a 'shredder').
I got a cheap Strat copy and started playing some bluesy stuff, but again the love faded.
Since I had the idea of building a Strat out of parts, I have started playing and playing and playing! Now I don't get any work done!
Thinking of things to do with a new build inspires me to be reacquainted with my passion for guitar playing.
