Longtime Squier Lover/Addict, new to forum.
Hi folks,
I figured I'd stop lurking this forum and actually join and try to give back some of that which I have received... so this is my intro thread.
I'm currently doing a refinish and re-tooling on a VM Jagmaster- there will be a "build thread" on it once I have enough pictures to make the thread worth your time.
I've owned lots of different FMIC instruments, mostly Bullet and Affinity Series as well as two MIM Fenders... more recently a VM Jagmaster, and last but possibly the greatest yet- my new Lake Placid Blue Cyclone. I LOVE this guitar. It still needs some mods, but I love 96% of it.
Right now I play out of a B-52 3 Mode Rectifier tube head into a stock Marshall Cabinet. Looking to swap rigs again soon as I'm in need of fresh air.
I'm a believer that FMIC knows how to keep guitarists from having savings accounts, because the very second that I ordered the Cyclone and said "this is enough guitars for now" I discover the J Mascis JM, and now I reckon I need to make room in the stable for one of those since a Fender Jazzy is just not in the $$$ for me right now and the JM-JM really looks fantastic.
I've played a lot of live shows thus far in my life and have done some light touring. Squiers have been my live guitars for 90% of those shows. I also have an Epi SG and an Ibanez RG7 to keep all the bases covered. I had a Peavey Acoustic, but my younger brother commandeered it.
Anyway, thanks for checking out this post and hopefully I get to know some of you fellow addicts. If I get around to it I'll put up some pictures of my collection.

why thank you, indeed that amp is capable of really ripping paint off the walls if I ask it to. I played an outdoor gig with it where I needed to take the gain to around 5 and the master to 7. A 100 watt rectifier turned up to those numbers really makes it's presence known It's finicky and a bit of a drama queen though and I'm about only halfway in love with it much better than the butt rock amps I played through prior to that in spite of the issues I've had thus far. A big muff pi in front of it and a boss EQ in the loop really makes it capable of seriously rocking tone.
However, I'm looking for something more docile and fender twin-esque. Turns out that not every situation calls for a rectifier amp. who would've guessed??

Welcome to the forum!! Can't wait to see your build thread. It's pretty cool to see gigging musicians that play Squier. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Tattoo,
Short of the real deal fender twin, the mustang III and IV amps do a good impression. I just got a III and it is a pleasure to play. The fuse software helps dial in some really good tones. 1 of these days I am going to convince the wife to let me get a real fender twin though!

alfunkz, the VM Jagmaster is good for the money, but in hindsight I should have held out for the new VM Jaguar or Jazzy... or the new J Mascis JM. The 24" scale is nice If you like a short scale. Honestly I dont notice much difference between 24 and 24.75.... call me an idiot or whatever, the difference doesn't jump out at me. The jump from 24" to 25.5" is a different story though. Buy one used, definitely. I'd have alot less complaints about mine if I had spent a little less on it.
My complaints on the Jagmaster are the boring finish options, the cheap bridge hardware (most of the other hardware is nice though!) and the electronics on mine are horrible- i.e. worse than most. hopefully mine was just a dud and your prospects will all be good. I didn't lose any sleep over it, as I only played it for a short time before growing bored with the black paint and stripping it. Overall, find one for 150 on CL and it'll serve you pretty well.
As for the comment about gigging with squiers, I've had countless people come up to me during setup/takedown at a show and ask me how I can possibly stand to use a SQUIER as my primary gigging guitar. It's all in the setup and also in what you know.
Fine tuning, my friends. That is key

Also, alfunkz, let me clarify my statement by saying I wish that I would have held out for those 3 other guitars for two reasons,
1. more interesting finish options
2. a little diversity from my strat trem-equipped arsenal
And I mean, come on... just look at that fiesta red on the new Jaggy. Gorgeous!

hmmmmm tattoo i quite like the sunburst aswell if i were to get the fiesta red that pickguard would have to go doesnt do the red any justice in my opinion, and to be honest i wouldnt use the trem on the jagmaster anyway, and as for the jazzy yeah it looks good but i am swinging towards the humbuckers not the p90's although it would look cool having the j mascics sat next to my CV strat looking like twins or would that just be too much guitar bling? surely there is no such thing haha

alfunkz, I agree with your position in the color and pickguard colors not being the best for one another. Squier seems to do that a lot, pick a nice color and put a badly contrasting PG on it... hahaha...
