Rory meets AC/DC?
It's been ages since I've written a song with a live feel and after the mellowness that was my last offering, wanted something a bit more raucous. I've been a huge Rory Gallagher fan for many many years (since meeting him as a little boy) and started putting this track together with a Rory feel in mind (note that doesn't mean I think I can play anything like the great man!). But I also love songs with driving basslines - I think they force people to tap their feet even if they don't particularly want to - and the bassline here takes this song to an almost AC/DC 'Let There Be Rock' era.
Overall I'm pretty pleased with it. I've got a vocal line in my head and that would be more bluesy/Rory-ish but as usual don't have a way (or voice) to put it down yet. If it sounds a bit 'rough and ready' it's deliberate for that live vibe
Mixed for cans:
Riding The Storm
Oh, everything except drums is on the Squier Strat. Drums are Addictive Drums (thanks for being a pain in the arse to work with on this song, AD)

Very good, seems that there's also a southern rock influence there.

Thanks, I never thought of that and it's not usually my style but listening again I can see what you mean

Yeah, I think I caught a little bit of a Allman Bros. feel. Maybe the slide part?

That's probably it - and don't throw stones but they're a band I've never listened to it's really the live Rory vibe/energy I was trying to get. Still, it's hardly an insult so thanks!

Some people may scoff but I think there are some similarities between Rory's earlier work and Duane Allman's style.
Maybe they both listened to the same old blues records when they were young!

Well you've definitely given me food for thought - I think it's about time I did a bit of catching up

Thanks! I've got the Bass Expansion pack for my XTLive. As I haven't owned a bass in over 10 years (I'll get around to fixing that one day, lol), I made a patch that basically drops the note by an octave and runs it through a modelled bass rig and lets my Strat sound bass-like. It sounds best with the E and A but it does the job for me
That probably sounds more complicated than it actually is. Basically I made a Line6 patch

Very nice! I could see Rory doing his manic, 1-legged hopping thing to your track!
