SQ Squier whammy bar.
Hello,
I have a 83 SQ Strat that is missing the whammy bar.. Do any of you know where I can find one? or possibly what the threading is?
I am so glad that this website is available. Looking forward to hearing other JV/SQ players thoughts and opinions.
Thanks
G

I guess I could go to Home Depot and pick up a 5mm & 6mm bolt to see which one fits.. I can't believe I have not thought of this earlier.. Thanks for the input. I will let you know what I find out.
Happy New Year!

It looks like AllroyPA had the right answer. I went to Home Depot today & bought a 5mm & 6mm bolt and the 5mm fit perfectly..

I think you mean the Pro Tone's ...?
The export JV and SQ blocks are zinc alloy Japanese made items. These exact same spec blocks can be seen in a lot of the later Greco Strats ('79 to '82 roughly), but strangely, when the very first squiers were produced, they fitted a more vintage accurate version (still Zinc), and only for a very short time (first two months of production...approx).
They don't look like the blocks from any other Japanese manufacturer (similar I guess to the Tokai 'Springy Sound' Strats, but they have cast wording on them), so it's a bit of a mystery where they were originally sourced (did late 70's USA Strats have zinc block?.....if so could be from that stock?).
Anyway, I'm waffling again...sorry!

Oops Rock's right it was the ProTone discussion we were having. Possibly the ProTone may have been the mighty-might. My bad ...
