that's nice, Paul. all of that black just blends in together. just a question. what is the significance or importance of a SQ serial number ? just curious.

Back in 1983 when Fender first set up Fender Japan with their Japanese partner the first guitars with Squier logos had JV serial numbers. JV for "Japanese Vintage" actually were '57 reissue and '62 Reissues. They were all made in Japan but had US electronics and pickups.
Shortly after as they broadened the line they the next guitars were the '70s reissue (like this one I just bought) and these had SQ serial numbers. All of this was in late-1983 and early-1984. The SQs didn't have US electronics or P'ups, however.
These two sets of guitars, JVs and SQs have been long storied as Squier's best guitars and as such have always sold for more money in the used market. The JVs in general are more sought after than the SQs but both are usually mentioned as the "best" MIJ Squiers. Certainly the oldest.

Great looking guitar! I'd love to have the chance to play one of those someday. I've never seen a JV Squier in person.

I have a Black Silver Series # p014907 that I love. She has had the sh*t beat out of her but she stays in tune and never fails. All hail the black MIJ Squier Stratocaster.

Damn - thats a fine looker!
I'll bet she sounds as good as she looks.
Apols, I have assumed it is a 'she' Most guitars are!
I dont usually like black-on-black (Though I like 'Tuxedo' even less - except for Gilmour's main squeeze - of course!) but that one there 'just works'.
Shows that one can never generalise.
Lovely.
You happy with it/(she!) ?

telepath, one can never assume gender in this day and age and I didn't want to piss her off. Yeah, I am extremely happy with her. Much to your dismay, however, she is black with a three layer white, black, white guard. I think she looks quite elegant, even with her dings and scratches, etc. But hey, each to his own I say.
