Well I picked up a Modtone Speedbox Distortion pedal cheaply off Ebay. When I was researching the pedal I found a vid comparing to the Boss DS1. So when I got it I did my own head to head. The Modtone Speedbox has more of a scooped modern tone to it. It has a nice crunch where the DS1 is more of a smoothed over distortion with more midrange. I tend to EQ mids down and bass up anyways, so the Speedbox has this without EQ'ing it. Wins me over, thicker bass'ier. It's got a more usable stock sound than the DS-1. Just my observations and they are really affordable.
