Default Digitech RP50

Anyone using or ever used one of these? Or similar model?

I just picked one up for $20 bucks and change with the intention of trying out different effects to see what may fit into my style or sound. A lot cheaper than buying a bunch a pedals I may not really having any interest in using in the long run.

Yeah, I'll have to download a manual since I'm getting it used but I'm looking forward to playing around with it to see what sounds I can get out of it and checking out the drum patterns it has.

I have a rp355 and really like it, not sure it would be good for any gigging (which i do not do) but love the different stuff. A guy on youtube does a complete review of both and shows it off if your interested.

I've never owned one, but a friend let me use his digitech unit (RP300, I think) when we would jam together a few years back. I like digitech stuff and it's definitely more convenient than hauling a bunch of pedals around. These days, on those rare occasions that I play with others, it's just my Daddy-O overdrive into my ChampSE. But if I had the cash I'd be a pedal/multi-effects junkie.

The only pedal I use is a Digitech RP 250, what a steal for 20 beans.

I have an RP50. Nice enough unit. Seems like an infinite number of settings and sounds. I love the cabinet emulation - sounds great through headphones and for recording.

I'm thinking a lot of interesting uses are possible with this unit. I'll let everyone know how it works out.

Well after only just beginning to try this thing out, I can already tell it has a huge range of possibilities.

Now the problem is trying to remember which presets are which!

I've had a pawn-shop RP-150 for a couple of years and it's been all I've needed. I use it as my tuner, but never use the drum machine. I got a USB cord and hooked it up to the laptop and downloaded the current update from D-tech as well as the X-edit software. You can also download patches from other users that they create. All it lacks is an expression pedal. Lot's of bang for a $50 pawn-shop buy.

The drum patterns are a bit limited but I've found a few that are great for jamming/soloing along with. I've also found some patches for the RP50 I have. Not real impressed with the few I've tried but it's encouraged me to come up with my own.

The RP50 was my first pedal, and I used it regularly for quite some time. I still keep in on my board for the drums, though I've graduated to an RP1000...which, with the programming, is just...infinite.

I too have an RP150 (now discontinued) and have been pleased with it. A handy gadget to have on hand.

I have an RP200 I've owned since 2001-ish. The pre-programmed tones suck, but if you spend some time with these things, you can get some really nice sounds out of 'em. I use a Rectifier model on mine. I can run it into a solid state amp and assign gain to the expression pedal. I use that to "drive" the amp like a tube amp varying the gain from 0 to like 15-20 (out of 99) for a nice mellow overdrive sound. Just like running a volume or boost to a nice tube amp.

lboorse2,

You are correct, I fired up my RP200 yesterday through my little Vox AC4 tuber and it really sounded great. I'm not all that crazy about the presets... even so the tones were impressive - far beyond expectation. I'd like to create an SRV tone - I'm thinking a something like a cross between the "Tweedy" and "Slinger" presets.

Any tips on programming it, it is pretty clunky...

<-- RP250 Owner

The power supply died on mine, and reading reviews on musicians friend dot com, they are known to be crappy. I found a power supply for a Line 6 and it works great.

You must be very careful to match the output voltage and make sure that it meets or exceeds the current requirements. Electronic devices will only draw the current they need, so the power supply can exceed it safely. ie a 9V 1.5A power supply will work great for a device requiring 9V 1A, but a device that requires 9V 1.5A will smoke a 9V 1A supply.

Actually, my power supply is fine... I went to the Digitech website and downloaded a bunch of user custom tones. It's turned out to be a pretty decent pedal...

These things are great through headphones. I had an RP-150, I think it was, and a Superchamp XD at the time. You want to run your amp as clean as possible so it isn't fighting what the RP is doing. I ended up using it for headphones only and it sounded great that way. For me anyway.

Thanks,

I run the little Vox with both tone and volume on 5, it really sounds great. I finally tried ithe RP200 with the other wattages. The 2w setting is actually not a bad bedroom volume, the 1/4w is not so great (but that could be the 12" cab is too much speaker - a 6" or 8" might sound great...).
